Well, with a feeling of boredom slowly creeping over me, it's time to try something new. So here's the first edition of Shuffle It Up! The concept is quite simple, when I have nothing to do I will turn on my shuffle and post the first 3 songs (5 this time) I can listen to the end without getting even more bored.
1. Lil Jon Ft. E-40 & Sean Paul - Snap Yo Fingers (Kaze Remix)
For those of you who like that electro hip-hop, then you'll want this one. Very well known song by Lil Jon remixed by Kaze. Check him out, his stuff is sick and he scratches damn fine.
2. Pilotpriest - Zipper (1994 Radio Mix) Not quite sure where or what this song comes from, but amazing song! I'd say it's a mix of house with a wobbly bassline and a kinda disco feel to it.
3. Little Brother - Good Clothes First song off the Justus League 2k8 Bootleg. Very dope hip-hop song with Little Brother killing it as usual. If you don't know this guy yet, be sure to go get his And Justus For All album.
4. Trademark Da Skydiver - Dead Fool Trademark Da Skydiver is a member of Curren$y's FS Jets crew. This one is a straight up classic beat in our modern days. The song is the first to leak off his new mixtape A Day in The Life of: Issue 2, which is the follow up to his first mixtape Trademark Presents Da Skydiver Issue 1. Y'all can get the first mixtape here.
5. Skillz - 2009 Rap Up Ahhh Yeaaa it's your man Skillz doing it again for 09. Since 2002, Skillz has been doing a year end wrap up with everything from politics, national & international news and of course the music industry. Once again he does it to perfection! Check out the lyrics here
Merry Christmas everyone! Here's a decent variety of songs (holiday spirit included) from old hip hop to some more soulful stuff and even dubstep. Hopefully there will be something for everyone, don't miss the freestyle by Biz Markie, Big Daddy Kane & T.J. Swan!
Nothing better for Christmas than some Prince Zimboo. You can all go grab the original, instrumental and acapella of his new song Santa Flaws over at Mad Decent. Here are a few remixes I find dope
Enjoy! Don't miss any of these, you can listen to the first few remixes and download from the Soundcloud player. As for the last one, trust me it's just as awesome with a hard bassline.
longtime no see huh, well heres a diversity of songs using our new app to preview songs, so enjoy the preview and direct download for yall lazy asses. Dont expect any gangsta rap or punk electro in this post. Listen for yourself
1. Beck - Leopard-Skin Pill- Box Hat (Bob Dylan cover)
It's my birthday, it's snowing, good times! well not much time to write up a nice post but I have some things to test and music to share. Enjoy the switch in styles over the weekend, gonna be more hip hop, reggae, dancehall. Hell anything with some riddim!
NOTE: Yo, DMCA. Why the fuck would you pick on a blog that has like 10 readers at MOST? The song that I think you are filing the complaint against, the Dennis Ferrer one, led to a dead link, since it got deleted from mediafire already. What is the point of deleting the whole post? Didn't read the shit on the side that says "IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM, WRITE IT IN THE COMMENTS AND WE SHALL BE HAPPY TO REMOVE IT"? Our goal is to promote, not pirate endlessly. I'm sure 10 downloads won't be making a dent in Dennis Ferrer's pocket or your pocket. Have a pleasant day.
Here are my five favorite songs of the moment, in no particular order. Been playing the shit out of them recently. Hope you enjoy them as much as I have.
1. The Bloody Beetroots ft Steve Aoki, Bobberman & Justin Pearson- Warp 1977(192kbps) New vocal edit of the massively popular song, off of their new EP, Christmas Vendetta: Spares of Roborama. It has not changed much, but the new shredtastic vocal really adds an awesome twist to it and breathes new life into this extremely overplayed track..
2. Dennis Ferrer- Hey Hey (DF's Attention Vocal Mix)> [REMOVED BY "Demand"]
4. Lil Wayne- I feel like dying (Flying Lotus remix)(320kbps) Kind of old, but Flying Lotus just gave away the 320 of this and his a milli remix (Robo Tussin) a few days ago. Massive tune, no doubt about it. I'm really digging his style, it makes for some of the best chill-out music being made at the moment. The bass and sub bass in this is ridiculous. Some of the best stoner music out there, bruv.
I've included the video for the original, mainly because it oozes coolness. Dave1 & P-Thugg are Montreal's finest funky duo, and can do no wrong by me. They are just too suave and pimp, man. Skream's remix fits the vibe of the song perfectly. This is grown-up baby making music, y'all. Get familiar.
Harvard Bass is all the hype right now and guess what? He's gonna be in Montreal this weekend, December 5th to be exact, at Belmont. This show is going to be insane!
Well the reason I'm bringing these guys up is their new releases. First off, they dropped a crazy mixtape back in October in order to help save the world from H1N1.
Without further ado, I bring to you the "Swine Flu Shot Mixtape". You can enjoy the free downloads of their mix right here.
Secondly, they just dropped a new EP called "Captain Cessna" which you can buy it here! If you do decide to support the music, make sure not to miss the Wahlström & Valiant Remix.
To finish this off even better, here are a few other goodies!
Sorry about the sporadic updates. As Bynie said, school is biting us in the ass, for the most part. We beg forgiveness in the form of four 320kbps mp3s that will blow your mind. As usual, diversity is key.
Right HUGE song here. A while back Boys Noize and Erol Alkan dropped 2 great songs that you can get here. Shortly after I heard an insane piano remix of Waves done by Gonzalez on a BBC Radio 6 show with Erol Alkan. Needless to say I've been hunting down this song ever since. So today, I bring you...
Well no post in a while but been mad busy with school. lol I just tried to justify myself to my great audience. Anyways heres a few songs to keep things going!
Really fantastic edit by awesome Los Angeles DJ Them Jeans. His drums really add an awesome touch to an already gnarly song. Expect the XX to blow up pretty soon.
The Dream & Tricky Stewart are THE best production team in urban music at the moment. Hands down. I'm glad that people are starting to make cohesive albums again, and not just a bunch of singles arranged in no particular order. Although this song is slightly different on the Dream's latest album, Love vs Money, it still still a fucking powerhouse of an r'n'b ballad. Plus, the dude is married to Christina Milian. C'mon.
Minimal at its absolute best. One of my favorite songs of all time, just because of the absurdity of it. A pimp, stoned out of his mind, talking over an extremely simple, dirty and raw bassline and a raunchy groove . Perfect for an early morning warehouse party. Viva Loco Dice.
More depth + insight tomorrow. It's saturday, for christ's sake. Hangovers uber alles.
Well with such diversity on the blog lately, I believe it is essential that I put up some of my famous jungle music. Define it as you wish, all I can say is this ish is banging!
well well well, what we got here. A song and videoclip by swiss band FileWile witch describes themselves as : "Dubbed-out producer duo Dejot and Dustbowl have set out to conquer the world on streets unspoilt by the corporate music business. Going by the name of Filewile, the pair have created an agile musical force that won't be ignored. Armed with two portable computers, a mobile sound system and a speedily increasing array of tunes, filewile play out on the streets and in clubs to curious by passers and dance floor punters alike."
My president is black, green, red and blue, and I'll be goddamned if I ain't high as the moon
(cont'd)
I don't even remember exhaling the smoke. You see, Salvia hits you like a freight train, and the conductor doesn't even hit the brakes for about 10 minutes. Also, the delightful thing about it is that everyone who takes it has a completely different experience. It's like an out-of-body roller coaster ride into your subconscious, and can often be a bit indicative of your mental health. (In my case, I think it pointed to the need for a therapist A.S.A.P).
Immediately, all sensory connection to the outside world was cut off. I was literally transported another dimension where it seemed the laws of physics and gravity obviously did not operate. The world was pitch black, and strangely enough, tilted to a 60 degree angle. I looked around, scared shitless, and noticed 2 gigantic doors, with doorframes that reminded me of a carnival. They were green and red, and outlined with very bright lights. As well, the proportions were waaaay off, twisting and turning for no apparent reason. Suddenly, I heard a voice commanding me to look up, and to my absolute horror, on top of each of these grotesque door-like portals, were two Playmobils. Little round heads, with simplistic smiling faces and bodies with no arms. I fled in horror, running as fast as I could, but the doorways always seemed to be in front of me, coupled with the fact that the world was at an oblique angle. The horrific little creature then started to speak, in a childish voice.
(To be continued)
Not really condoning drug use here, kiddies. Just sharing a little blast from the past. Here's a few songs that are always enjoyable under the influence of the many different types of mind-altering substances out there. A little dubstep, a little electro, a little post-punk, etc. They are from different spheres of music, but all sound good with a little funk in your groove.
That's all for tonight, motherfuckers. I'm going to leave you with the video of the first song, Girls' Lust for Life. Girls are one of my new favorite bands, and reading their biography/interviews (LINK!) is almost a salvia trip in itself. They love to indulge in all sorts of mind-altering chemicals, and the result is some earnest and awesome rock music .
Cheers!
MDMAwesome reminds you to always ask a parent before you put it in your mouth.
Tonight's post is going to follow a format that I'll probably keep repeating every time I post. I'll do an in-depth feature on an artist/scene/collective that I find particularly innovative or talented, then I'll just post random tracks that I'm feeling at the moment. That way, you get to expand your horizons and stay on top of things. How unbelievably fucking convenient.
Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the one and only....
MAYER HAWTHORNE
You guys are probably expecting soft indie pop or indie rock by the look of this guy, right? Well, you could not be more wrong, to be honest. Mayer Hawthorne is making some of the sexiest, soulful and funkiest music out there at the moment. Before I get into all the hoo-ha, here's his chef-d'oevre and one of the best singles of the year, Just Ain't Gonna Work Out
Just wonderful, innit? (Note the Dam Funk cameo). His music has a sort of old-school vibe goin on, and it is interesting to note that Mayer Hawthorne actually plays all of the instruments on his records. The dude is soulful and talented, and his music is funky as hell. His tunes have a sort of retro feel to them, but still maintain a kind of modern groove. Mr. Hawthorne is signed to the famous Stones Throw label, along with Dam Funk, James Pants,& Madlib, among many others. He's a forward thinking artist who knows his history and pays tribute to the many godfathers of funk and soul. As well, he's working with Snoop Dogg on his new album, which should be an interesting combination to say the least. I'll leave you with a quote that kind of sums up the attitude surrounding Mayer Hawthorne.
“I think Mayer is the only artist in the history of the label that I’ve signed after hearing only two songs,” says label head Peanut Butter Wolf (an AMAZING Dj in his own right). “Sometimes, you just know it’s the right thing to do.”
Without further ado, here's a few of his songs, and I definitely recommend his album. Perfect baby makin' grooves.
Probably my favorite remix of this trio of Swedes, by the inimitable Mark Ronson. It has such a groovy reggae/rock steady vibe to it, and this song still has one of the best hooks of the year, in my opinion. (Little known FACT: The 3 gents in Miike Snow are the producers of Britney Spears' TOXIC. Mind= blown)
Felix Cartal is essentially the embodiment of punk ethics in electro. He's a young guy without any particular training or cred, who invested a bit of money into his laptop, started sending his original tunes and remixes to people, got a LOT of blog attention, and is now touring the world. Felix Cartal is one of the most promising young electro talents at the moment, and visits Montreal often enough. I'd definitely recommend checking him out next time he rolls through, his aggressive and moody music usually makes a crowd go apeshit. This song in particular is a remix of a massive tune by Dutch House DJ (and frequent collaborator of the Swedish House Mafia) Laidback Luke. The sweet house vocal is the perfect counterpoint to the pounding electro riffs. This song sounds ridiculous on a half-decent soundsystem, believe me.
The song that gives this post its name. Interesting little story surrounding this gem: I downloaded this song about a month ago, didn't listen to it, yet threw it on the ipod for later listening. About 3 weeks ago, I was walking back home as stoned as an adulterer in the Middle East (Oof. I am so not funny), and this beauty started playing in my headphones. The retarded "I wanna go to the friend's party" seemed ridiculous enough, but when the breakdown hits, oh my fucking lord. I LOVE LONDON! A simple electro bassline hits, then the most hilarious vocal I've heard in a while. "I'm so high and I can't speak", muttered in the most convincingly destroyed voice. Crystal Fighters are made up of 5 Spaniards who live in London. While this song isn't particularly amazing, it was quirky and insane enough to blow my mind that night and warrant inclusion on this pathetic little list.
Sorry about the updates, y'all. We're still getting into the groove, but things will definitely start picking up soon. (Mixes coming soon? Say it ain't so)
Well usually the weekend is that time of the week to... well you know, get fucked up. Lucky for me, this process started earlier this week on Tuesday and left me with a purple ankle. However, with so many shows coming up I'll do my best to not let this affect me.
We also have Grandtheft W/ Eli Escobar at Tokyo Bar which is definitely worth going to see.
Very sick song by Eli Escobar which caught my attention a while back and that I put up on Facebook
Friday
Big show at the S.A.T. brought to you by the people over at Saint Woods(as some rapper once said: get rich or die trying. Hope yall die) Well back to the show, Designer Drugs will be here along with Love Thy Brother and Kid Aloha
Watsup Watsup miss tasty yeah weve been pretty much dead in the last week huh too much abuse of lazynesssss
but hey here i am posting some ill' beats for your heads
so the subject of the day is Reverse Engineering(http://www.myspace.com/lereproducteur), a glitchhop\hip-hop\electro group from switzerland. You have Alain Decrevel (laptop), David Pieffet (laptop + human beatbox) and G-bart (turntablism) to form this group wich makes interesting instrumentals beats or watever they feel like doing.
anyway heres the songs, i dont feel like talking mucho.
So here I am, sitting in the middle of a field with a bong, on top of an old bath towel. It's about 11:45 at night, and my friend Jean-Pierre leDouche(*) wants to disprove the assumption that he's mentally unstable. He had taken Salvia Divinorum the night before, in his room, alone and in the dark. After about ten minutes, he comes to, with his bedside lamp in his closet and most of his possessions on the floor. Also, he happens to be on top of his brother's bed (with his brother and girlfriend in said bed), and speaking in an unintelligeable language.
Anyways, back to the story. Jean-Pierre leDouche is so spooked by this experience that he suggests that I take some in front of him so he can see what it looks like to see someone tripping out on this legal hallucinogen. He packs the bowl, and I take an enormous hit. Hearing him say 'hold it in, hold it in', is pretty much the last thing i remember before my brain is forcefully blown out of my skull.
(to be continued)
A little soundtrack for your next trek through the jungles of hallucinogens.
Izza Kizza is one crazy rapper out of Georgia who is currently signed to Timbaland's record label. I stumbled across this dude a couple years back (as in 2, since a couple is 2 people, if your 3 in ya damn couple well good for you) while checking out some hip hop blogs.
First song I heard was They're Everywhere and is still the one I dig the most. It has such a sick beat with Kizza spitting some of the most illogical lyrics in the weirdest way I had ever heard. This track was released on his first mixtape Kizzaland, as well as Red Wine which is another great song.
The main reason I'm talking about him right now is his new music clip "Ooh La La" off the Connect the Dots EP he recently released.
Might as well throw in another dope clip from this guy.
That Unabomber Punani
The new Connect the Dots EP is definitely worth checking out on iTunes. To end this off well here's a few extras.
Once again, I Love Techno kept some 35 000 techno fans from around the world dancing till late in the morning. This huge event takes place in Belgium and has been going strong since 1995. As always, the lineup is incredible and WHEN WILL MONTREAL HAVE SOMETHING AS MAD! Who knows, here are a few sets I found interesting
Well I find it a damn shame to have missed out on Chewy Chocolate Cookies in Montreal not long ago. I've been digging CCC for some time now and the new remixes do not dissapoint. To start off, a remix of We all wanna be Prince by Felix Da Housecat (check out the original clip, you gotta love those hipster chicks)
Like last year, BET decided for the Hip Hop awards to throw ciphers with some of the biggest names of the industry. Last year they had peeps like Ace Hood, Hurricane Chris, Fabolous, Jadakiss... But this year they went with more of a New York/east coast orriented line up, just chek it out for yourself. Plus DJ Premier is spinnin the whole thing so cant get better then that. They also managed to get mos def and eminem on the same cipher with black thought wich is pretty random i think, whatever... Freestyle to its best.
Im also throwing the video from last years' 1st part, it got hurricane chris, wich does alright i guess, k'naan rippin the shit and you also need to chek bun b and q tip doing there thang like usual. Peace
Instead of just posting random videos, I think it's about time to drop knowledge on you chump suckers.
Introducing....(drum roll)
Ninja - fucking - sonik
I first heard rumblings about Ninjasonik when their first(?) single, "Tight Pants" dropped a while back. While I admit that I wasn't feeling the vibe at first, til I saw videos and pictures of their parties, and figured I was definitely missing out on something, so I started listening to more. They are a trio from New York, making somewhat un-classifiable music (electro-rap, hipster-rap, party-rap or whatever the fuck you want to call it), and are arguably making some of the funnest (and hated on) music out there. Love em or hate em, they are deeply ingrained in the New York party, DJ, fashion & music scene, and are not going anywhere, unless of course they get those helicopters.
I uploaded a few of my favorite songs by them, so czech it ouuuuuuut.
