sibian & faun

sibian & faun are a duo from Montreal who produce some incredibly haunting and beautiful electronic music. Milo Reinhardt and Xavier Leon, the talented young duo that make up sibian & faun, hit us up a while ago with some tracks that they produced last summer. Their sound is choppy, jazzy, glitchy and futuristic r&b, I suppose. At the end of the day, though, it's just sensual and groovy electronic music. My only complaint is that the songs are at a low bit rate, but I have enough imagination to accurately guess what they'd sound like on a proper system.

We've included two of their older songs for download, and two newer ones, that are unfortunately only streamable for now. I'm sorry will definitely make waves pretty soon. Keep your eyes peeled for more material from these promising, forward-thinking producers. Montreal, stand up.

If you live in Montreal, and you aren't going to see Canblaster at Blue Dog Motel tonight, then we can't be friends. Ever.

#BOOMCLAP, as we repeat nigh-weekly, is the hottest ticket in town. And Canblaster is most definitely one of the most versatile and innovative new producers in the game. Get familiar. Here's a recent remix he did of French Fries' tune Charlotte. He'll probably be playing his crazier stuff tonight, but it's dope to see him switch up his style so effortlessly, and still make it work.

Hopsin

Credits goes to Sasha Exo Li for the illustration

Marcus Hopson AKA "Hopsin" is a dooooope rapper from L.A, California. Dude is sick, he has a nice skippy flow which has been compared numerous times to Eminem's. He also produces and directs most of his videos. Gotta give props to this guy for hustling his shit real hard. I'm quite mad at myself for spleeping on this talent for so long. Bone Thugs Harmony signed him to their record label back in 2007 but he recently decided to start his own producing company called "My Funk Volume".

To resume this in a quick sentence, let's say Tech N9ne & Eminem had a baby together, it would probably end up being Hopsin. Reminds me of Eminem's early stuff. You will also notice that the guy rocks the "snake eyes" contact lenses. AGRESSIVE.

Hopsin - Sag My Pants
Hopsin - Pans In The Kitchen

hope you dig the vibe cause I sure do,

Best of the Rest vol 4

Welcome to the fourth edition of Best of the Rest, our weekly feature that shines the spotlight on my five favorite songs that artists and producers send us. A simple idea, perhaps, but one that hopefully gives more exposure to some talented folks. Hope you enjoy it.

1. Retrotation (USA)

Retrotation- Poppyseed

Retrotation is a producer out of Pennsylvania who has a very innovative take on dubstep. I first took notice of him after he sent us a dubstep track that sampled opera, which I thought was pretty sweet. He aims to bring a bit of originality to a genre that is rather stagnant at the moment, and his recent productions have been quite dope. This particular one samples the SNES game Secret of Mana to great effect, but still manages to sound heavy and housey instead of the corniness that a lot of 8bit dubstep emanates. Not too bad for someone who's only been producing music for about 1 year, huh?

2. Clement Roussel (FRANCE)

Square Mode- One Way (Clement Roussel remix)

What a great sound. Clement Roussel, a talented young French producer, recently released this dreamy remix of Square Mode's track One Way. It meshes together a pleasant amount of electronic white noise, poppy buildups and memorable melodies. This is my first exposure to Clement Roussel, but I'll definitely be keeping my eyes peeled for more of his stuff in the future.

3. Death to the Throne (USA)

Lykke Li- Paris Blue (Death to the Throne remix)

I've always enjoyed Death to the Throne's remixes, but the little write-up he included in his e-mail pretty much sealed the deal for me. Even before I hit play, I knew I had to include it. Another (finger) banger, although I'm not too crazy about the brostep steez. Still heavy though.

in celebration of presidents day, i made this here lykke li remix. i've spent a lot time recently at raves and parties, and i have to say i think this whole "house" music thing is gonna be big. i've been inspired to provide a soundtrack for teenagers to finger bang each other to and i believe i pulled it off with this remix. and if i didn't, i don't care. teenagers should be obeying the laws of traffic instead of fingerbanging each other. learn how to text and drive at the same time assholes.

4. Jay Kill & The Hustle Standard (USA)

Jay Kill & The Hustle Standard- Say you won't

This is a song off the collaborative EP between Jay Kill & Charlie Hustle, a sweet slice of folky rock. This tune includes a great piano melody, subtle but powerful drum hits and of course, Jay Kill's distinctive guttural growl. Pretty dope.

5. Flirtphonic (USA)

Flirtphonic- What's Going On

I am really not into mash-ups anymore, but once in a while, there's one that creeps through that puts a brief smile on my face. We've profiled Flirtphonic before, about a year ago, and he recently sent us this mix of The White Stripes' I'm bound to pack it up and Marvin Gaye's What's Goin on. Not re-inventing the wheel, obviously, but it is still a fun mash-up and worth your time.

Killer Mike & T.I.

Been a real long time since I downloaded a worthy T.I. track. This one, called "Ready Set Go" definitely is a cool banger. Having Killer Mike sure helps the cause. This ATL duo wrecks the beat.

Brenmar: Paper Running

One of my favorite producers, Brenmar, just released this tune for free, and it is predictably AWESOME.

Brenmar- Paper Running

Here's a few other amazing/bizarre tunes to get you through the day. It's sunny outside, so forget about any run-on sentences and pretentious descriptions.

Throw these on your ipod and enjoy the vibes. Get some fresh air and appreciate life, people.

Ciara- Deuces (NGUZUNGUZU remix)
Jim-E Stack- Ok
Lil B- Already (Chopped & Screwed by Babe Rainbow)

crevasse

Good afternoon, people. Enjoy the tunes.

Many More- Turn up the music (Dooze Jackers remix)

Dooze Jackers are Montreal's kings of Dutch House and crazy electro, and curators of the infamous Kannibalen parties. When it comes to making insane tracks and eviscerating dancefloors, no one does it quite like Dooze Jackers.

Scarface- Keep me Down

A classic, off of Scarface's album The Fix. It's got a large dose of country guitar twang, and some of the realest rhymes you've ever heard.

Jacques Greene- Tell Me (Kingdom Edit)

Kingdom goes in on an already insane Jacques Greene track. Night Slugs are on a roll this year, holy shit. Soulful, powerful and just plain beautiful

Savage Skulls - Caravan by soundpellegrino

Duke Ellington gets the Savage Skulls treatment. Probably going to be one of the bigger tunes this year, as this tune is unbelievable. A top notch flip on this old jazz classic. Of course, the real tune clocks in at about 5 and a half minutes, but this is a decent preview. Tight!

I found out about this amazing Texas artist very recently, and wanted to share his soulful material with you. Townes Zan Vandt was a codeine drinking folk singer, who used to fish for codeine bottles out of a hole in his floor, because he lived over a pharmacy. This is Screw music, way before the Houston scene and purple drank aka lean rose to national prominence. Draped up and dripped out. Real emotional shit.

Townes Van Zandt - Waiting Around to Die

Now I'm out of prison
I got me a friend at last
He don't drink or steal or cheat or lie
His name's codeine, he's the nicest thing I've seen
And together we're gonna wait around and die

The Glitch Mob

If for any reason you've never heard about The Glitch Mob before, here's your chance. This Los-Angeles trio is formed of legendary edIT, Boreta and Ooah. They decided to combine their skills to make some of the best glitch-hop music there is out there. Their sound is pure genius.

Here's 2 Tracks off their album called "Drink The Sea" and 1 remix by Eskmo.

Laid Back Sunday #21

Sunday really is the best day of the week. Grab the herbs, cook yourself some delicious meal and enjoy life while listening to the marvelous Laid Back Sunday's playlist.

Sol.illaquists Of Sound - Heroes
I've already introduced you to Sol.illaquists couple months ago. His twist on hip hop sure is different and plenty refreshing. Great harmonies topped with a talented emcee that flows the beat like no other.

J-Boogie's Dubtronic Science - For Your Love Ft. Zumbi of Zion I & Rithman
Californian resident, J-Boogie is a DJ/Producer that loves to mix up different style of music to produce his beats. He often uses Jazz, Afro Latin percussion, dub, soul, and plenty of other genres to come up with an original product. This track has Zumbi from Zion I rapping on it. Damn right

5 Elementz - Bumpin Sumtin
5 Elementz - Janet Jacme
We will never talk enough about how talented was Mr. J Dilla. Recently decided to get myself a copy of the album he did with a group called "5 Elementz" back in the 90s. This band, was formed of : J Dilla, Proof, Thyme & Mudd. Really raw old school hip hop vibe. The instrumentals are so delicious.

Styles P - Good Times
Since I'm currently cooking "magic" cookies with some buddies, this classic Styles P joint fits the mood like a charm.

Shigeto - Relentless Drag
This artist named Shigeto produces some interesting experimental music. His most recent album called Full Circle is a pure gem. The sound is deep and epic. I can't get enough of this track. This shit is bananas

Radiohead - Codex
Ending this one with a song off the recently released Radiohead album. These guys never seem to disappoint. Always delivering quality material, Radiohead is the definition of a good Laid Back Sunday. Enjoy

Have a great Sunday,
See you next time,
