riddims

Good morninnnn'.

5th night in a row on the night shift. I probably should be trying to get some sleep, but fuck it. I needed to share the love. Here's some dark and grimy winter music.

iApe!- Candyflip Riddim

A mammoth tune from L-A based iApe!, released last year. This is an incredibly trippy futuristic moombahton/reggaeton banger. There is so much bass and ferocious rhythm in this track that it's kind of ridiculous. By the way, actual candyflipping is way too trippy, man. Fuck that shit. Much respect to Dave Quam.

Fused Forces & DJ Cable- Flocka Riddim

Two UK dubstep producers, Fused Forces and DJ Cable, collaborated on this awesome grime rework of Waka Flocka Flame's infamous Hard in The Paint. Dark sounds, heavy bass, and a lot of Waka, who seems to be one of the only rappers I listen to these days.

Flukes- Wifey Riddim (Murlo remix)

Murlo is a fantastic producer out of the UK. He's been featured on the legendary Palms Out Sounds and Mad Decent blogs, among others. If you're into Soca, UK Funky or bashment style beats, then you will definitely dig Murlo's sound. He puts his own spin on 2-step/grime tune Wifey Riddim, and switches it up a bit with dancehall charm, thumping drums, ethereal vocals and an ungodly amount of bass. Somehow manages to be both ominous and sweet at the same time.

MaddJazz- Selekta Riddim (Dirty Trickz remix)

MaddJazz is a member of Ghetto Division, a group of Chicago juke & house DJs that include Rob Threezy, Charlie Glitch and Rampage. If memory serves, he's also a member of Jersey's Brick Bandits crew, who I really dig. Long story short, his club pedigree is mighty, and he's been releasing crazy tunes for a while. Belgium's Dirty Trickz injects a heavy tropical vibe into his tune Selektah Riddim, turning it into filthy dancehall rave anthem.

Micro Prophet - Non Stop (Dooze Jackers Remix) - FREE DOWNLOAD by Dooze Jackers

Every Monday, Montreal's dutch house maestros Dooze Jackers will be releasing a brand new remix. We posted their ManyMore remix last week, and here is their newest one, a heavy carnival banger infused with that trademark Doozie twist. Heavy and groovy, as per the usual. Keep an eye on their soundcloud.

...

Don't forget to join us tomorrow for a new addition to my 7-part OFWGKTA segment. This time around, we'll be profiling the one and only Frank Ocean.

crevasse

Good afternoon, people. Enjoy the tunes.

Many More- Turn up the music (Dooze Jackers remix)

Dooze Jackers are Montreal's kings of Dutch House and crazy electro, and curators of the infamous Kannibalen parties. When it comes to making insane tracks and eviscerating dancefloors, no one does it quite like Dooze Jackers.

Scarface- Keep me Down

A classic, off of Scarface's album The Fix. It's got a large dose of country guitar twang, and some of the realest rhymes you've ever heard.

Jacques Greene- Tell Me (Kingdom Edit)

Kingdom goes in on an already insane Jacques Greene track. Night Slugs are on a roll this year, holy shit. Soulful, powerful and just plain beautiful

Savage Skulls - Caravan by soundpellegrino

Duke Ellington gets the Savage Skulls treatment. Probably going to be one of the bigger tunes this year, as this tune is unbelievable. A top notch flip on this old jazz classic. Of course, the real tune clocks in at about 5 and a half minutes, but this is a decent preview. Tight!

I found out about this amazing Texas artist very recently, and wanted to share his soulful material with you. Townes Zan Vandt was a codeine drinking folk singer, who used to fish for codeine bottles out of a hole in his floor, because he lived over a pharmacy. This is Screw music, way before the Houston scene and purple drank aka lean rose to national prominence. Draped up and dripped out. Real emotional shit.

Townes Van Zandt - Waiting Around to Die

Now I'm out of prison
I got me a friend at last
He don't drink or steal or cheat or lie
His name's codeine, he's the nicest thing I've seen
And together we're gonna wait around and die

alarm clock

I haven't updated in a whole week, which is something that hasn't happened in a bloody long time. My apologies. To win back your favor, I'm going to dump a metric ton of music and videos on your sorry asses. Enjoy.

BSBTRGDCLUB- Ancient Tropic (Dooze Jackers remix)

Ah, Montreal love. Dooze Jackers sent this new remix of electro producers BSBTRGDCLUB's tune Ancient Tropic over to us, and we just had to share it with you. Dooze Jackers' high-octane hybrid of dutch house and tropical bass madness is getting them a lot of attention these days, and as long-time supporters, we're extremely stoked. This tune is somewhat rhythmically disjointed (and I mean that in a good way), but packs just enough heat to be qualified as a banger.

Darren Henlon- Punk's Not Dead

Punk's not dead...she's just gone to bed.

Awkward Australian indie folk for the win.

Ramadanman- Glut

I'm not even sure that you can still qualify this as dubstep. This is dance music with so much bass that it literally makes the ground tremble. Ramadanman is a huge force in the UK bass music scene, and all of his productions are top-notch. A-Trak even dropped one of his tunes on Sunday, and it was probably the most bass-heavy track of the whole evening.

And now on to the videos:

First of all, I've posted the brand new Die Antwoord video, Evil Boy. Not much to say here, honestly. The tune was produced by Diplo, and the video, well, was obviously directed by somebody with a mild case of psychosis.

Graffiti never gets talked about enough in hip-hop, which is surprising, considering how much hip-hop culture has co-opted its style and used it for its own gain. Dope rhymes, laid-back beat and nice footage of random bombing.

And finally, I'm going to bring back one of my favorite videos from last year, a one-take shot video by a bunch of college musicians for their final project. Refreshing sounds, decent lyrics and a fun video. What more do you want?

Nyle- Let the Beat Build

Peace!

Canadian Club Crunchers vol 1

Today's post will focus on a few Canadian artists, one that I've posted about before, and the others that deserve recognition because of the big moves they are making. Actually, given that the music scene in Canada is so unbelievably dope, I will be running a weekly segment called Canadian Club Crunchers to bring some of that talent to you. We've also included their respective myspace, facebook and soundcloud pages, just in case you guys want to keep tabs on them, become a fan, or just tell them how much you dig their shit. You can google their twitter as well, if you're so inclined.

If you guys know of any artists you think deserve mentioning on this segment, just hit us up at the usual place. On with the show.

Dooze Jackers (Montreal)

We've already posted about talented Montreal duo Dooze Jackers in the past, but they have been killin' it recently, so another mention was inevitable. DPV & Techjio have recently released two great EPs, Got Line!, on Rogue Records, which I mentioned in the previous post, and one called We Love Moogie, on DJs Are Not Rockstars. We love Moogie is one hell of an anthem, a pounding electro-house anthem that's sure to get massive amounts of love. Actually, if I can remember correctly, Canblaster's remix of that song got onto one of Brodinski's monthly charts, which is amazing.

I hit the guys up today, and they said that they were working on a BSBTRGDCLUB remix, which should be dope, and reminded me that their 'Got Line!' release party is this friday at Belmont Bar on St-Laurent. I have yet to see them live, so I'll report back on how it was. By the look of the video he included of the We Love Moogie party, it shouldn't dissapoint. Oh yeah, and by the way, here's a snippet of the new Kid Kaio remix of their upcoming track Zoo. Big Tings, Dooze Jackers, big tings. Their recent foray into the Dutch House style is bound to produce some quality shit.

Jokers of the Scene (Ottawa)

Ottawa's greatest and apparently only DJs (seriously, who else comes from Ottawa? I can't think of anyone) have been literally obliterating dancefloors for quite some time. Jokers of The Scene were some of the first signees to Nick Catchdubs & A-Trak's Fool's Gold label, and I distinctly remember seeing them at the first Fool's Gold showcase w/ Kid Sister, Mehdi, Kavinsky, A-Trak,etc. These dudes are the kings of hard hitting rave music, and conveniently switch up their style on every remix. They go from creeping excursions into house to straight-out bash your head against the wall electro. No matter the genre, these guys master it and create some of the most memorable synth lines you'll hear this year. Oh yeah, I hear they throw great parties, too. The first song I posted is a recently released Video Edit for their new single Revolting Joks.

These dudes are always scarily on point when it comes to chosing visuals. I'm pretty sure Dust La Rock does most of their promotional artwork (as per the usual for Fool's Gold releases), but nevertheless, I always seem to remember the art that comes with JOTS stuff. They're actually holding a contest in collaboration with Fader Magazine to see who can make the best video for Revolting Joks. I dig the fact that they encourage fan participation, and hope they pick something dope. If you are artistically inclined, head over to THE FADER to get all the necessary info.

Nacho Lovers (Toronto)

Last but definitely not least is Toronto's masters of house and techno, the gargantuan talent known as Nacho Lovers. This duo crafts amazingly smooth tunes that bring you back to the basics. Their tunes all share a certain "sensual/smooth/groovy" (for lack of a better expression, I suppose) feel, a sort of throwback to the finer virtues of electronic club music. They've got that "eyes closed, hands in the air" vibe down to a tee, and I am a big fan. I've yet to hear anything I haven't liked from these guys, but if you're into gratingly aggressive electro, this probably isn't your bag. Not to say it won't get you moving though; their baby-makin' deep house anthems are perfect for any after-hours rave as well. Expect the birth rate to go up in any city that Nacho Lovers go through, though. (Interesting fact: The first song of theirs that I'm posting is actually what inspired Dave Nada to create Moombahton. Get with it.)

nous.sommes.des.animaux

Massive post this fine morn'. As per the usual with Avenge The Virgins.

As you know, we love posting about relatively unknown talent that deserves to be heard. Today's post will focus on two artists, Flirtphonic and Dooze Jackers, both who are starting to gain notoriety for their dope and unique take on electronic music. As always, if you dig what you hear, try and support these guys. They definitely deserve it. While some might not have music to purchase yet, dropping a quick message to tell them that you dig their shit/appreciate what they do is a great motivator for most artists.

on with the show!

FLIRTPHONIC (New York/Seoul)

I mentionned Flirtphonic in last week's post, when I gave you his massive remix of Organ Donor. As previously mentioned, I first got exposed to Flirtphonic's music when he reached out to us by e-mail, asking us to check out his stuff. He also mentioned the fact that his Gifted remix (posted below) had been the most popular song on Hypem for a little while, which is quite a feat for someone who hasn't been releasing music for that long. I don't really give a shit about the popularity contest aspect of hypem, but Flirtphonic makes really fantastic music, so more power to him if he can gain exposure through it.

His sound is a distillation of everything you love about electro: heavy distortion that pounds you in the temples, driving synth stabs, and melodies that ring in your ears after the song is done. ATV approved!

Flirtphonic- Bubble Burst
Flirtphonic- Welcome to the Party
N.A.S.A ft Kanye West, Lykke Li & Santigold- Gifted (Flirtphonic remix)

DOOZE JACKERS (Montreal)

Dooze Jackers are a duo from our very own Montreal, made up of the incredibly talented Techjio (I've mentioned him in the past) and DPV. I am perhaps a bit biased, because I read their now defunct blog Le Mothership regularly for over a year, but their output as Dooze Jackers speaks for itself. They, like fellow Montrealers MadKids, are making big waves in the house and electro scenes, due to their relentless work ethic and crazy bangers. Their "Got Line!" track got love from such big names as Sound of Stereo, Foamo,Jaymo & Andy George. These guys DJ and produce as much as they can, and yet do not let themselves be pigeonholed into any particular genre. Dooze Jackers' songs do fit into the new wave of percussive ethno-house, but they are much more than that. They seamlessly weave an array of influences into one maniacally groovy, booty shake-inducing package. Dope shit you definitely need to support. (NOTE: I've included their latest mix "We're Not High, We Just Like Bangers". Mais c'est débile!)

[P.S. Dooze Jackers are playing at Montreal's THEATRE TELUS on Friday with MadKids, Victor Hacala & Designer Drugs. Guaranteed to be an insane show.]

Party Dark- Is that You? (Dooze Jackers remix)
Canblaster- Kapongo Dance (Dooze Jackers remix)
Noob and Brodinski- Peanuts Club (Dooze Jackers remix)

Vous y êtes !* - Episode 3 (mixed by Dooze Jackers) We're Not High, We Just Like Bangers ! by Dooze Jackers

Dooze Jackers MYSPACE

Of course, being the monstrous turd that I am, I've included more music. The first, a massive dubstep tune that is betting burn from a huge amount of DJs around the world. It sounds like a Zelda song to me, but it definitely bangs. The second, a new tune by AtV favorite RUBIX, who kindly let us share this. Très dope, Mr Rubix. You've done it again.

Doctor P- Sweet Shop
Rubix- Disco Electronique
