the single most beautiful video on Youtube

Leon Russell wrote "A Song for You" in 1970, and it is one of the most covered songs of all time. Donny Hathaway, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Elton John, etc, and many more have added their own touch to this song. This video shows Willie Nelson's 70th birthday party, with Leon Russell, Willie Nelson and Ray Charles performing "A Song for you", and Ray Charles' interpretation is so unbelievably moving that Willie Nelson is brought to tears. Ray Charles died shortly thereafter, so one imagines he was singing that song about all his lost friends and the lost loves of his life.

I've been so many places in my life and time
I've sung a lot of songs I've made some bad rhymes
I've acted out my love in stages
With ten thousand people watching
But we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you

I know your image of me is what I hope to be
I've treated you unkindly but darlin' can't you see
There's no one more important to me
Darlin' won't you please see through me
Cause we're alone now and I'm singing this song for you

You taught me precious secrets of the truth witholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding

I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you

You taught me precious secrets of the truth witholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I'm so much better and if my words don't come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding

I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you
We were alone and I was singing this song for you

Not sure if you guys will dig, but in my opinion, this is one of the most moving performances I have ever seen in my entire life. Ray Charles transmits such intense grief and happiness at the same time, and it almost brings you to tears. Music is meant to have a soul. I might listen to a lot of dance music, and I am completely unapologetic about it, but my absolute favorite music, no matter the genre, has to transmit emotion and passion. It is a shame that these simple elements are so lacking in a lot of today's music.

Have a great night, y'all. Enjoy the Superbowl.
