Travis Barker - Give The Drummer Some

After remixing and producing bunch of songs for different rap artists, Travis Barker finally decided to release his own album called "Give The Drummer Some".

In general, the album's vibe is a bit too popish for my taste but I still managed to find some cool jams.

Bun B goes hard on this beat. damn

Diamond District

HUUHHHH WINNING.

This DC based group named Diamond District is formed of producer Oddisee and 2 emcees that go by the name of XO and YU. If you've been following us for for a long time you might remember yU. We posted his single Fine, which is quite delicious. Make sure to search this beat on hypem if you havnt downloaded it yet.

On another note, this band embraces politically conscious lyrics and grimy beats. The first track posted here is my favorite. WHOOOO I BE samples the almighty ODB on the hook. Make sure to check out their album called "In The Ruff". great stuff

The Mind

On the menu today, we have offerings from Bombé, Krueger, Leo Justi, Dances With White Girls and poolsmusic. All of the songs are streamable, most are downloadable, and every single one of them is dope. Enjoy.

Ivy Castle Pt. 2 by Bombé

We've posted about Philedelphia-based Bombé a few times now, so you should be somewhat familiar with his top-quality productions. For those who aren't, I'm planning on doing a profile on him in the next few days, so keep an eye out for that. He is still a relative unknown in the bass music world, which I find ridiculous, but I'm confident that he will blow up soon. This is a gargantuan percussive anthem with a very dark feel. Frightening and funky.

Nou by KRUEGER

Krueger is a Philly-based producer that I've only recently stumbled across. He labels his music as a mix between tropical and future bass, but I'm trying not to put music into sweet little categories anymore. The lines between genres are so blurred these days that to pigeonhole tunes takes something away from the brilliance of the music. This particular tune is like a sinister mariachi anthem of sorts. A sampled ragga vocal is tossed over thundering bass and a misleadingly sweet melody, and your ears and brain are pretty much reduced to rubble. So dope.

Savage Skulls - Caravan (Leo Justi Heavy Baile Mix) by Leo Justi

Like for a lot of people, Diplo was responsible for my first introduction to Baile Funk. While the hype and fervor surrounding the genre has pretty much died down, I started noticing baile vocals and influence creeping into a lot of house tracks. It has a very distinct hypnotic cadence that incites booty-shaking like almost no other genre. Leo Justi is a DJ/producer out of Rio de Janeiro whose remix of Savage Skulls/Tony Senghore collabo Caravan was featured on the most recent episode of the Sound Pellegrino podcast. Duke Ellington doing the dirty with pounding Baile Funk rhythms, now that's a great combo.

Bout The House (original) (Plant Music) by danceswithwhitegirls

Thug house is a movement. This is a forthcoming release on Plant Music that features acid house stylings and trademark Dances With White Girls vocals. His productions all have a great 'New York house' feel to them, and always make me think of a sweaty, drugged-up warehouse rave. It's about the house, y'all. Gospel music on extacy.

Pools VS Biggie - Can I Get Wetcha by poolsmusic

poolsmusic is a new collaboration project between L-A DJ Thee Mike B and San Fran DJ Morse Code. Honestly, their steez is pretty self-explanatory. It's a soundtrack to lounging around a pool. Of course, I'm having a really hard time relating to it, given that Montreal is blanketed in snow, but these looped giggles are giving me hope. Hurry the fuck up, spring. I'm fiending for warm weather. (Also, R.I.P to BIG, lest I forget)

On to other things:

Either one post a day isn't enough for you guys, or we're falling off, according to Google Analytics. Which is why we are going to try to post twice a day from now on, and we're trying to work on a 2.0 version of the site, an overhaul if you wish. The content and the swag shan't change, obviously. We're just going to make it a lot nicer to look at, a lot more varied, and make it easier for you to get around. Either way, that should be ready in the next month or so, if all goes according to plan.

I'm a glutton for reader participation, so I'm just throwing this out there: do you have any suggestions/things you'd like to see in the new version of Avenge the Virgins? Let us know in the comments.

This morning's post features brand new material from both Jim-E Stack and LOL Boys, as well as two free mixtapes from forward-thinking beat messiahs Clams Casino and Young L.

Do U by JIM-E STACK

New Orleans based Jim-E Stack, as I've mentioned a few times, is one of my favorite new producers. His frantic productions are hard to describe, but they always feature unhealthy amounts of bass and hurricane-speed percussive sounds. Twisted, short, but so very on-point. Spring-loaded club music.

I'm always on the look-out for more of their distinctive brand of dance music, so stumbling upon this new mix was quite a treat. Definitely looking forward to all of these releases!

______________

Clams Casino is an amazing producer based in New Jersey who is most recognized as the mastermind behind a few of Lil B's #based classics, including I'm God and Motivation . He recently released this instrumental mixtape of his past productions, which features beats he did for Souljah Boy, Main Attraktionz, Squadda B, the Jealous Guys and Deezy D.

Clams Casino- Numb (Unreleased)

I wasn't too familiar with Clams Casino up until the point I heard this mixtape, but it has rapidly become one of my favorite instrumental hip-hop releases ever. I've been bumping these distorted dreamscape beats for the past few weeks and I'm still going hyphy to it. So solid. Grab the tape for free below.

Speaking of hyphy, one of my favorite groups during its brief heyday was The Pack. Of course, Lil B was the member who got most of the burn after hyphy died down, but the producer/rapper behind all of their beats, Young L, was my favorite member. He started off making all of their futuristic bangers on Fruity Loops, but has now moved on to Reason. As time goes on, his stuff gets a lot more bizarre and minimal, but it is extremely unique and dope. I've included an insane cut off of the mixtape, Conscious Minds, which samples Peter, Bjorn & John's Last Night. His music is dark, insane, and most importantly innovative. Grab the free swag below.

Mackpaye: Appeal/Fragrance EP

When we first started to gain a following on Avenge the Virgins, about a year ago, one of the first people to contact us and suggest music was a like-minded blogger named Loic Mackpayen, a.k.a Mackpaye, a 19 year old from Reims, France, who runs a hip-hop and electronic music website called Source of Cool.

Mackpaye also mentioned that he DJed and was thinking of getting into production. As he started releasing his Source of Cool mixes, which you can grab on his soundcloud, posted below, I started noticing his remixes and original productions start creeping into them.

Therefore, it was only natural that he would start releasing his music on a proper platform, and lo-and-behold, he recently sent us an e-mail informing us that 12-3 Recordings out of Stockholm was releasing his debut EP, Appeal/Fragrance.

12-3 Recordings is a relatively new label, founded and curated by Sticky Stockholm, a producer and DJ out of the Swedish DBTY! camp. Mackpaye's EP is their third release, and it is a very solid effort indeed, already gaining early support from LOL Boys, Art Nouveau and WATM Magazine, among others.

Both tunes can be described as proper house music, with a very deep soulful vibe. The A-Side, Appeal, is a nostalgic and groovy deep house tune that features a sexy r&b sample, but my favorite of the two is Fragrance, probably because I'm a sucker for horns that melt into great stuttery vocals. Jazzy, loungy but still likely to make you dance until the early hours of the morning. This is heartfelt house music, the kind that forces you to put your hand in the air with your eyes closed. Soulful & sexy.

I've included the press kit and both songs, which are streamable. Appeal/Fragrance drops tomorrow, the 9th of March, on both Beatport & Itunes, so be sure to cop this impressive effort from this talented newcomer in the strong Reims scene.

A: Appeal (Original Mix) by 12-3 Recordings

B: Fragance (Original Mix) by 12-3 Recordings

Young Reims-based producer, dj and blogger Mackpaye was picked up on 12-3 after sending some super dope, and truly soulful demo tracks this winter.

This very debut EP is a smooth master piece consisting of equal parts deep vibes and vocal flow. House music paying tribute, and looking forward, it fits the 12-3 catalogue perfectly.

Appeal is almost melancholic, modern r’n’b meets a classic house sound in a sweet symbiosis.
The B-side, Fragrance, is a more classic track in both structure and sound, a true jewel full of groove.

Damu The Fudgemunk

I've been meaning to post about Damu for some time now. Nothing better than a gray Monday afternoon to finally share this moment with you. Not too sure how this D.C. artist made it into my collection of music but his work sure is fine. He dropped his first album in 07 with Insight, collectively known as Y Society. Though not at all familiar with Y Society or Insight a while ago, you can be assured more material of theirs has made its to my library. Back to the star of this post, Damu is a ridiculously talented producer and DJ who uses his incredible collection of vinyls to create some innovative, scratched out, jazz/soul vibes. Besides spending time lost in his vinyls, Damu is also known to show up in parks around Washington & New York with his gear and spend the afternoon bangin' his sound to whomever is there to listen. This that realness right here.

Damu The Fudgemunk Ft. Y Society - This Advice

Damu The Fudgemunk Ft. Buff1 - When The Winter Comes (2 Track Mix)

Damu The Fudgemunk - Soul Brother Number 3 (Damu's 3am Freestyle)

Damu The Fudgemunk - Pulse (Instro 2006)

Damu The Fudgemunk - Pulse (Remix 2006)

Can't really say any of these songs are my "favorite", all his material is way too dope. I simply tried to prone diversity and grab a song off his array of EPs: Same Beat, Spare Time & Overtime. He put out a lot of free stuff and damn does he ever put in work musically, best I can do is share his music and hope you dig his sound. For everything Damu visit Wonka Beats!
I think I'll leave you with one last clip of Damu doing some God-like things with his MPC.

Soul Clap: Essential Mix

Boston's amazing house duo Soul Clap recently played an all-vinyl set on BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix, and it is mighty dope. Cal will probably drop a Laid Back Sunday for you guys in the next few hours, but in the meantime, enjoy the crackles, pops and pure grooves for the next two hours. Much love to Ao-Ao for the heads-up.
