First time I follow up on a blog segment! But what did you expect, Cal's last post got me craving more and more hip hop for those nice summer days. Same deal as before, 5 classic tracks (edit: 6 cause I just can't stop myself); some of them you should definitely know, and others that are a must for your music collection.

Jurassic 5 - Whats Golden
Off their third album "Power In Numbers" released in 02. Interesting fact, the song was part of "ATV Offroad Fury 2". Coincidence? I think not.

Vybz Kartel & Friends - Gun Session Remix
This is probably the most gangster Jamaican song I've ever heard. Featuring Akon, Shabba & Sizzla!

Dro Ft. Boe Skagz & Tay Nati - Guttaville
From "Waist Deep", alright movie but great soundtrack.

Sean Biggs Ft. Topic & Akon - Never Gonna Get It
Another Akon song? Surprising, but I find that he has done some fresh stuff. Especially when he sticks to the chorus, think of "Snitch" and "Cross That Line".

Lupe Fiasco Ft. Jill Scott - Daydreamin'
He was in my first segment and at first I wasn't going to post this. However, the song being sampled is a personal favorite so I just had to! The song in question is "Day Dream In Blue" by I Monster.

These two should always collaborate. They brought us Waves & Death Suite, now they're back with Avalanche & Lemonade.

Lupe Fiasco - I'm Beaming (Prod. The Neptunes)
Off his new album Lasers. This song has even been getting hype in the electro world, Craze played it on the mix he did for Mishka.

Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence (Hard Rock Sofa Remix)
Ahhhhh. Seems like every time I encounter a new remix of this song it just gets better and better. Let me tell you a story. This all started when I went to see Eli Escobar. At one point during his set he dropped a remix of this song. So naturally, when I got back home I tried to find it, but in vain. A few weeks later I finally came across a remix by Ewan Pearson and another by Chew Fu. Sadly, neither of these was the remix I was looking for. At this point I decided to dig a little deeper. The outcome your asking me? Still not the remix I wanted, but an incredible clip and remix by Mike Shinoda which satisfied my desire.

Seriously what is there to say here, this duo from Queens are legends. If you don't have this song yet, be sure to add it to your collection.

And so ends the first Back to Basics. You can rest assured that when I can't find a decent idea for an electro post, I'll keep dropping this type of ish.
