Nothing too fancy tonight, just a jumble of songs and videos that I've been digging recently. Most have been posted all over the internet, but I'm not one to be a whore to exclusivity.

Girls- Honey Bunny

I was lucky enough to get to see Girls perform at the Corona Theatre in Little Burgundy this past Sunday, as part of the great Pop Montreal festival. I've been a huge fan since their debut album Album was released, and I've seen their popularity skyrocket since then. People really warm up to their delightfully earnest pop ditties and awkward love songs. If you like drugs and instantly memorable melodies, you're not going to find a better band to match that ambiance. Their new album Father, Son, Holy Ghost, which was released two weeks ago, is definitely worth your time.



A$AP ROCKY- Peso

Manhattan's A$AP ROCKY is one of the first rappers in a looooooooong-ass time to make me pay attention to New York's hip-hop scene. His southern-influenced swagger is fresh and exciting, and is giving me faith in a scene that has egotistically self-cannibalized itself for the past 10 years. He's been working with San Francisco's Main Attrakionz and LA's spaceghostpurrp, and I must say I'm stoked to hear what will follow. Say what you want to say about the movement, but the based sound is taking over. The new wave of hip-hop producers like Clams Casino, Keyboard Kid, Young L and more, are producing spacey, ethereal masterpieces, and A$AP ROCKY is one of the first rappers to actually have potential to break through. His smooth baritone works well on these beats, and he has made some of my favorite rap videos this year. A$AP will take over in 2011-2012, buh-lieve that.



Coeur de Pirate- Adieu

New CdP! I will always be a fan of Béatrice Martin's sweet pop music. Her new album blonde, will drop in November, and this is the first single. I dig the evolution in style that is quite evident in this tune. Her usual melancholic piano music is getting slightly more upbeat, although the themes haven't changed much. Haters are gonna hate, but I dig it.

Peter Peter ft Coeur de Pirate- Tergiverse
Peter Peter- Homa

Peter Peter is a very recent discovery of mine, a folk/pop artist from Montreal that sings in French. I bought his album after only seeing a few videos of him performing a few songs acoustically, and I must regrettably inform you that the CD's mastering is absolutely piss poor. The songs are still pretty sweet, but it sounds like poo, man. Peter Peter makes really depressing minimal pop music, with a touch of folky whispering included. This might not be your cup o' tea, but I enjoy it a whole lot.

Swedish House Mafia- Save the World (Style of Eye & Carli remix) (REMOVED BY REQUEST)

Yeah, I went there. This has probably been posted on everyone and their mother's blog, but given its undeniable summery anthem feel, I figured I might as well include it. This will probably rule the clubs, beaches and terrasses this summer, for sooth. Warning: May induce fist-pumps galore.

Mata ft Mali Boi, M.P & Big P.O.P.E- Streetz

Block Beataz in this bitch. Besides Yelawolf & G.Side, I guess I haven't really been hearing too much about the Huntsville scene, but I still bump old PRGz & Slow Motion Soundz tunes on the regular. This was one of the more 'street' tunes that they released, a heavy trunk-rattling banger with an absolutely amazing beat. Mali Boi, who produces most of the Paper Route tunes, and raps on a few tunes, is nuts, and Big P.O.P.E still has one of the most unique voices in rap.

Diplo & Douster- ON! (REMOVED BY "REQUEST")

Again, this has been posted quite a bit elsewhere, but it's a really neat collabo between two of the dopest club DJs out there, so I just had to share it. Not really sure what to call this. Grunts, beeps, wild percussion and fart sounds make the club go wild.

Lunice & Young L- Hip Pop (remix)

Merci #basedgod. Waaaaaaaaaay too much (dare I say it...) swag for one tune. Thanks to Southern Hospitality for putting this together, really doe. Montreal x Bay Area. Lucky Me x Legendary Inc. Good x Lord.

Well, the Dooze Jackers show was pretty awesome. Bynie and I hit Belmont last night, and we were pleasantly surprised. The opening djs were a bit too heavy on the bangers, though. Perhaps it's like that at all heavy electro shows, but I love it when people actually build a decent groove to allow the headliners to smash it. When you start playing heavy bpm "blog house" at 11 pm, people aren't going to be in the mood to dance as much when the headliner comes out. Then again, the average age at this show was pretty young, so maybe they've got more energy than me. People still looked like they were having a good time, so kudos to everyone who played.

Regardless, I was fucking smaaaaaaaaaashed. Those beans will be the death of me, man. Not much sleep + splitting headache = one of those days that I post laid-back tunes that I'm jamming to right now, with the lights off and the blinds closed. Oy vey. Too much dutch house in one night is to blame.

Dances With White Girls- Jiggle Dat

THUG HOUSE. It is a movement. NYC's Frog, who DJs and produces under the name Dances With White Girls, is quite the personality. He got signed by The Rapture's label Throne of Blood a few years ago, and has been steadily releasing a slew of bass-heavy hits for the past little while. His sound is like Armand Van Helden in the mid-nineties and Biggie conceiving a child on the dancefloor of a sweaty warehouse rave. Swagger, jacking beats, a deep groove, and lyrics that peel panties. Get with it.


Momma's Boy- Wedouwedou (Kid Kaio remix)

Rotterdam's Kid Kaio does not fit into (at least in my opinion), the wave of dutch house that has been sweeping dance music off its feet. That's not to say that he's not talented, I just think that his bleepy seizure-house has more potential than most of Afrojack's bastard spawn. This is a bloody monster of a track, demonstrating that beepy rave stabs can double as percussion, if you're creative enough. This remix was for Sound Pellegrino, which we've talked about often enough. The future!

Mr Oizo- Positif (Manege 88 remix)

For all of our french readers out there, this will definitely get a chuckle out of you. Manege 88, a talented young duo of electro producers out of France, turn Mr Oizo's classic on its ass. "Vous etes des enculés" literally translates as "you take it in the ass". Juvenile humour? Sure. Migraine-inducing, chopped up electro? Check. Awesome, fresh and hilarious take on an already trippy song? Fuck yeah. Continuez comme ca, Manège 88.

Le Matos- How do I let you know (feat. Coeur de Pirate)

Coeur de Pirate, for those not in the know, is an indie-folk phenomenon in Quebec (and I, the most enormous fanboy). This song, in which she teams up with Montreal producers Le Matos, is completely different from her usual output. The reaction to their remix of her song Comme Des Enfants probably led to this track, and I'm definitely not mad at it. Synth-heavy pop ballads that feature a beautiful girl with an awesome voice on the track are favorites, I must admit. Either way, hearing this francophone girl singing in english makes me weak at the knees.
