the spirits have got me.

Yes, we've slacked on the posting in the past 2 days. Apology accepted. I'm not going to be posting anything game-changing tonight, mainly just mellow beats to space out to, stuff you bang when all you want to do is lie down and stare at the ceiling. Hope you don't mind.

Just a little something to ease your soul.

Gonjasufi- Ancestors (produced by Flying Lotus)

L.A's versatile producer Flying Lotus teams up with Gonjasufi, a rapper who also moonlights as a yoga teacher and mystic. The end result is a twisted raga, a sort of raspy ode to those who came before, done FlyLo style.

Wil May- Got to move (produced by Wil May)

See, I don't really give a fuck that this isn't what you'd call "real hip-hop". This shit is amazingly catchy, son. From LA via ATL, this guy is riding the wave started by J Futuristic, Travis Porter, Young L.A, et al, the white boy/black boy blueprint, or whatever the fuck you want to call it. I dig the slang, the beat, and the goofy swagger. Haters are going to hate, but this shit is gold.

Les Colocs- Tassez vous d'la

Once again, I am posting francophone rock from Montreal. It won't become a trend, I just figure that this is a particular scene that you've most likely heard absolutely nothing about. To be honest, I've only been discovering it in the past year, so I am by no means an expert. Les Colocs were a very influential group, founded in 1990 led by the late charismatic but troubled icon Dédé Fortin (who later committed suicide in a very chilling way: he performed harakiri upon himself three times, because he missed his heart the first two), . Their sound is a medley of typical Quebecois folk, reggae, african tribal rhythms and blues. This particular song is one of their most popular songs in Quebec, and features two Senegalese brothers on the chorus, singing in the dialect known as Wolof. Again, this might not be everyone's cup of tea, but give it a chance. The vibe, not the language it is sung in, is the important thing.

Young Montana?- Sacré cool

Mary Ann Hobbs' favorite unsigned act of 2010, a Brit making creepy, glitchy downtempo. We don't usually post this kind of thing, but this fits the mood tonight rather well. Big Ups Phil H.

Get with it.
