Man Up & Work

Today's songs are winning. Not as much as the above picture, but still a solid first.

I'd like to start it off today with some killer cocaine tracks. Naturally, I don't want to encourage the use of drugs. So if your currently addicted; blink your eyes and tell your mind to stop abusing. Simple right?

Funny little mashup dating back from 09, weirdly pleasing.

Brigden mentioned this song in a post some time ago. It's still getting a good amount of hype because of the whole unknown artist intrigue. Recent images point towards an upcoming release on Loefah's Swamp'81 label. The mystery artist remains in the dark, but there is now word of a b-side to "Sicko Cell" called "Knock Knock". The choices are narrowing down as to the identity of the artist. Therefore, I'm going with Joy Orbison today.

Ahh and to finish up two more songs: Man Up & Work. That's right, the title wasn't a jab at Sheen, but rather two tremendous tracks I want to share with you. First one is from Breach's Fatherless EP and has some serious style. Next up, we have a newer release by High Powered Boys (Bobmo & Surkin). This one from the Udon/Work EP released on Sound Pellegrino*. "Work" is dope, but the real gem here is "Udon". Think of Drop The Lime's "Sex Sax" turned into softcore porno. Beautiful.

Breach - Man Up (128kbps)

*oh snap a footnote! For those of you in Montreal this weekend, Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team will be playing with Jesse Rose at the S.A.T. during the Neon & HighFood Festival.

Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team - It's Raining Crystals From The Future

quehoraes

going to hit you with some strange and special things this evening.

10:50
L-Vis 1990- United Groove (Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team remix)

The original song came out quite a while ago on Mad Decent records, but for some reason, the remix package just recently arrived. It features remixes from Buraka Som Sistema, Baobinga & I.D, MJ Cole, Kingdom, TRG and this one, which is my favorite. It is a well known fact that the label called Sound Pellegrino has been making a serious impact in the funky/tech/tribal/etc. house music scene with a wide variety of releases, each one crazier than the last. From 'Boriqua' to 'Peanuts Club' to 'Caked' to 'What is Guru', this label is aiming for the stratosphere, and beyond. Neat fact that not a lot of you might know: Sound Pellegrino was founded by none other than locally infamous Teki Latex (of TTC fame) and DJ Orgasmic (also of TTC). Some might talk down on the rotund frenchman, but he has a knack for predicting musical trends (they were the first to rap over electrocrunk beats). This remix is quite simply amazing: Teki preaching over one of the best songs of last year.

David Guetta ft Kid Cudi- Memories (Bingo Players remix)
VS
David Guetta ft Kid Cudi- Memories (Armand Van Helden vocal remix)

Same song, two different vibes. The Legend himself, Armand Van Helden, or the amazing Dutch duo, Bingo Players? Personally, I prefer the Bingo Players one. It fits the vibe of the lyrics and is a perfect early morning sing-a-long song to play in a club. Which one do you prefer? Let us know in the comments.

11:09
Sneaky Sound System- It's not my problem (Thin White Duke remix)

This came out last year, but it got almost no blog buzz, from what I can remember. That's a damn shame, because it is a fantastic remix. Melodic, moody and euphoric, this is the type of remix that Thin White Duke (a.k.a Jacques Lu Cont, a.k.a Les Rhythmes Digitales, a.k.a Man with Guitar, a.k.a extremely popular and prolific producer Stuart Price, who has produced for Madonna, Gwen Stefani, the Killers, etc) excels at. It kind of reminds me of his nigh-perfect remix of that Royksopp song that came out a few years ago.

11:15
Sean Roman- Phone Call

Amazing new talent out of Ontario. Big Things will happen in 2010, croyez-moi. Haunting dance music with a really solid groove.

11:19
Slim Thug ft Young Jeezy- Diamonds (DJ Ayres & Winslow Turner Porter III remix)

Heh. Who says I don't post rap? This is the best version of this song, hands down.

11:23
Malajube- Etienne D'Aout (La Mort)

Hometown heroes Malajube deserve all the critical acclaim that they get. If you haven't heard of them, this song is perhaps not the best introduction, but it is my favorite. I've heard their last two albums, and they are modern rock classics in my book, especially Trompe-l'Oeil. You'd really be missing out if you ignored this incredibly talented Montreal band that still only sings in French despite the fact that they tour worldwide. Support Quebec talent!

11:27
Aloe Blacc- I Need a Dollar

I'm getting a Gil Scott-Heron vibe from this, for some reason. Aloe Blacc is the past, present and future. Get familiar, bitches. Soul that trascends genres. Off of the brand new DJ Green Latern mixtape called 'How To Make It In America'. (Listen here!)
