This tardy post will feature a production duo that is no stranger to ATV, the always innovative LOL BOYS. I've professed my appreciation for their music ad nauseam over the past year, so I won't go too crazy on the description. All you need to know is that this new remix is pretty stellar/insane. DMT meets Ballroom? Oh lawd.
Also, as a nice little segway into tomorrow's post, I've included a recent remix by the very talented Sinjin Hawke. We're going to feature a preview of his upcoming EP tomorrow afternoon, but for tonight, please enjoy this monumental remix of Philly producer Krueger's banger Galactica.
Sinjin Hawke twerks the original into a thunderous monster, and pays homage to another young producer killing the game, Lex Luger. Real recognize real.
I've been a big fan of LOL BOYS and SamoSoundBoy for a serious minute, so when I heard that the Los Angeles natives were starting a label called Body High, I knew it was going to be pretty tight.
Body High has dropped one EP so far, the debut release by DJ Dodger Stadium (a collabo between Jerome Potter of LOL BOYS and SamoSoundBoy), called the Stadium Status EP. LOL Boys & SSB are quite well known for their love and mastery of wild rhythm and percussive club music, and the Stadium Status EP definitely reflects that. You can check out a few snippets on the label's soundcloud page, which is linked at the end of the post.
The Last Breath EP, produced entirely by the mysterious DJ Funeral, is the second release by the promising young label, and it is slated to be one of the most talked-about releases in quite a while. Completely unclassifiable in any known genre, Last Breath will feature (from what I can ascertain from this 5 minute preview) a double-time jumbie rave anthem, a booty clapping jam with terrifying percussion and what I can only describe as R&B on a heavy dose of Ayahuasca.
The EP is dropping at midnight on the 31st of October, and will be available for purchase online from most of your local crack peddlers. Keep your eye on their soundcloud, big things are in store.
ATV homie Stranger Day just sent this rap edit over, and holy shit, it is tight. His trademark buttery flow fits perfectly over this spacey beat. Just in time for summer. Show the dude some love, he's one of our favorite rappers and has always been a big supporter of Avenge the Virgins.
702's r&b banger Steelo gets a vogue house makeover from Montreal/LA duo LOL Boys and ATV regular Sinjin Hawke. This amazing runway rave music remix was released to hype up the Indecent Xposure showcase scheduled this friday.
Whoa, I was really not expecting this. Toronto vs UK vs Gothenburg. Little Dragon and Drizzy add a little flavour to SBTRKT's futuristic bass tune, and the combo really works. Of course, there's going to be haters, but I'm really not mad at this. OvoXo gang, bitch.

If you've been reading this blog for any length of time, our love for LA/Montreal electronic music duo LOL Boys should be apparent. Therefore, when news started spreading that they were releasing their first full length EP, on Discobelle Records, no less, I was extremely psyched. They always have something mindblowingly bizarre up their sleeves, and this self-titled EP is no exception.
LOL Boys are a duo who met through an internet message board, and due to a common love of music/percussion/weird ass rhythms, started linking up and created a monster of a project that has seen DJs, producers and fans alike going absolutely apeshit. Although they were placed into the 'tropical house' box due to the genre's former dominance of the musical landscape at that time, their productions were entirely too unique to pigeonhole. LOL Boys' tunes draw inspiration from genres that are typically at opposite ends of the spectrum, like juke, tribal guarachero (3ball), reggaeton, electro and more. There is a reason that they get a lot of love from their peers, and that is because their whole approach, from the audio to the visual, is unique as hell. Their music is a inescapable meme, an infectious creature that you are irrevocably drawn to. Trippy, tribal & tremendous. (As a sidenote, I am killin' it at the alliteration game)
The self-titled LOL Boys EP is really quite phenomenal, no matter how alien it might sound. These dudes kind of break all of the rules, and it works. Grimy amp feedback somehow warps into something melodic, a bizarre latin carnival sample mutates into a soulful reggaeton rave anthem, something that sounds like a Hans Zimmer soundtrack on DMT feels right at home in the middle of a rainforest, and well, Blockz. The video posted above pretty much describes what goes through my head when I hear it.
You can cop the EP at either Juno or Boomkat, and if you've enjoyed the tunes, I highly recommend picking it up. At the very least, show these highly creative/innovative/unhinged (and nice) dudes some love at any of the links below. (Oh, and both of them will be at Blue Dog Motel(friday) and Velvet (saturday) this week. It'll be the first time both LOL Boys play together in Montreal, so don't miss it!)
Montreal duo Grown Folk, who you'll recognize from their amazing Steady Movin' track that dropped on Truancy Records last month and their fantastic monthly Grown Folk Collection mixes, recently unloaded their cinema sountrack-worthy remix of Runaways. As usual, they inject their formidable brand of sexy house right into the jugular, and the result is really dope. Perfect for a balmy summer evening.

This is the first release for All Naked Records and we wish them luck for the future. I do enjoy this comparison, so think of this song as the DP version of Drop the Lime's "Sex Sax". The other song was released by No Brainer Records and since their first release, Moston & Malente's "Oh My God", have been gaining more and more of my respect.

LA/Montreal house music duo LOL Boys have just released this phenomenal foray into the future for the new edition of Kick Out the Jam's mix series. This is a nearly an hour's worth of new and unreleased material from such names as Munchi, xxxy, Dubbel Dutch, Sinjin Hawke, Mackpaye and of course the LOL Boys themselves. I'm always on the look-out for more of their distinctive brand of dance music, so stumbling upon this new mix was quite a treat. Definitely looking forward to all of these releases!
Clams Casino is an amazing producer based in New Jersey who is most recognized as the mastermind behind a few of Lil B's #based classics, including I'm God and Motivation . He recently released this instrumental mixtape of his past productions, which features beats he did for Souljah Boy, Main Attraktionz, Squadda B, the Jealous Guys and Deezy D.
I wasn't too familiar with Clams Casino up until the point I heard this mixtape, but it has rapidly become one of my favorite instrumental hip-hop releases ever. I've been bumping these distorted dreamscape beats for the past few weeks and I'm still going hyphy to it. So solid. Grab the tape for free below.
Speaking of hyphy, one of my favorite groups during its brief heyday was The Pack. Of course, Lil B was the member who got most of the burn after hyphy died down, but the producer/rapper behind all of their beats, Young L, was my favorite member. He started off making all of their futuristic bangers on Fruity Loops, but has now moved on to Reason. As time goes on, his stuff gets a lot more bizarre and minimal, but it is extremely unique and dope. I've included an insane cut off of the mixtape, Conscious Minds, which samples Peter, Bjorn & John's Last Night. His music is dark, insane, and most importantly innovative. Grab the free swag below.

Actually, given that it will only go to DMX after about an hour and a bit of warm-up vibes...that just might work.

This is damn fine vibe music. What a perfect amalgam of soulful melodies, pitched vocals and tremendous bass lines . Sinjin Hawke is a young, talented DJ/producer out of Montreal. This is a sexy-as-hell swagged out piece of lovestep that you need in your life. Decidedly tight stuff.
Whoa. Two of my favorite producer duos have reunited to make magic for Art Nouveau's EP Air France. While the original Air France is more upbeat, groovy and straightforward house, I prefer the flip on Air France II. Inception-level dreamy vibes and a sweet vocal sample that is lifted from early nineties rave music combine to make something both ethereal and jukey. Footwork music for the soul, as it were. I'd really hoped to avoid this shitty pun, but you won't find a better tune to join the Mile-High Club to this year. Straight vibes. I had the pleasure of seeing Grown Folk play at Blue Dog this past friday, and while the rest of the night is a complete blur, I do remember their set being filled with sensual futuristic jams. Kid Aloha + Roledex, aka Drew & Brendan, are gaining quite a bit of recognition for their unique twist on the sound of the moment- the bass heavy hybrid of sexy house and r&b. Besides being signed to the Templar Sound label and being featured on Sound Pellegrino's prestigious Podcast series, they've been getting love from names such as Damu, STSQ, LOL Boys, Sam Tiba and more.
Grown Folk Collection N°03 features 2 fantastic new Grown Folk productions, and a great mix of upcoming releases and recent bangers. This is perfect mix of sensual upbeat house, futuristic UK-influenced bass sounds and techno grooves. A nicely interwoven web of the past, present and future of sexy synth sounds . Although I'm starting to sound like a broken record, I genuinely believe that Grown Folk is going to gain a lot of recognition in the music scene this year. Casanova crunk music, people. Get with it.

Today's post is going to feature something we're going to try and do a lot more of, which is promoting parties in our hometown of Montreal. We've been awfully lazy these past few months in terms of hitting shows, but now that autumn has officially kicked off, our schedule is lookin' packed. We're trying to get more involved in the local scene, so expect us to promote a lot more Montreal shows in the future. The events that we'll be showcasing today are free (aka NO COVER), which is all sorts of rad. Can't argue with that. The only problem is that both happen to be on the same night. I'm going to be hitting both of them, and I invite you to do the same. They're honestly a 10 minute walk from each other. Footworkin' is a monthly party that Markus from LOL Boys, Azamat B & Kid Aloha throw at the little Blizzarts bar on St-Laurent. They play a very varied selection of music throughout the night, which can go from rnb to house to rap to 2step to juke to whatever. If it makes your ass shake and gets your hands in the air, then they're bound to play it. I've only been to one of these nights so far, the previous one, but it was a great event. Blizzarts is a rather small bar, but it has a very intimate feel to it, which is great for late night groovin.
This particular edition of Footworkin features the one and only Brenmar, who we blogged about not too long ago. His unique blend of sexy rnb stylings and club chops will be a great addition to the vibe. Of course, Kid Aloha, Azamat & LOL Boys always hold it down properly, and will definitely have you enjoyin' the hell out of life that night. If you're tired of packed electro events filled with hyperactive kids, and just want to spend the night drinking, relaxing and dancing to great rhythms, dope sounds and fantastic music that can't be pigeonholed, then Footworkin' is your night. Plus, the dudes who organize it are rad, so you don't really have an excuse to miss Footworkin #4, which is on its way to becoming one of Montreal's best monthly parties.

Well, this should be an interesting show. Although I would much rather see Etienne de Crecy perform in his famous Cube instead of at the posh Suco lounge, I'll have to settle. Scion is quite well known in the US for throwing a bunch of dope parties, but this is a first for Montreal. They've also made it free with RSVP, which is a really nice touch, considering that electro DJs are charging (deservedly, of course) a lot more for their performances these days. Scion also brought along those Los Angeles kings of disco, Classixx, to spice up the festivities. It's a peculiar touch, adding nu-disco to an electro show, but Classixx always throw down great sets, so I'm not too worried about that.
This is bound to be a really dope show, and given the limited capacity of Suco, it'll probably fill up really quickly, so try and get there early. If you're in the mood to go buck wild next Thursday, then this is probably your best choice. Of course, you're probably going to have to deal with the regulars patrons of Suco, who tend to be on the douchey side, from what I remember, but it comes with the territory, haha. If you're an aficionado of fine disco, or hard-hitting electro music, then we'd suggest that you RSVP as soon as you can, as this is one event that you won't want to miss.
Well, besides the fact that I have a little headache, things are good in Avenge The Virgins land. Cal, Dom & I just got back from seeing The Seventh Letter's exposition at the Yves Laroche art gallery on St-Laurent, which was supremely dope. The Seventh Letter, for those not in the know, is a crew of West Coast-based street artists/vandals/etc, which includes such names as POSE, REVOK, RETNA, REYES, NORM, and others. If you are unfamiliar with their work, step your game up. They are some of the most talented street artists in the States, in my opinion. If you're in Montreal, go check that out pronto, the exposition is there until the 15th, I believe.

Brand new LOL Boys remix, folks. This time they take on British pop newcomer Florrie's song Give Me Your Love, and warp it from a sensual pop ditty into something dark and slitherin'(no harry potter-o). Sounds like something a serial killer would put on during a romantic supper.
We've got a bunch of shit in the works. Don't divert your gaze for a second. No clue what Bynie + Cal have in store for you, but I've got new installments of Canadian Club Crunchers, Broaden Your Horizons & Thizz Music coming up this week. Stick around and put some headphones on, cause there's gonna be bass.
All of the ATV team and a few friends hit up Montreal's Velvet Speakeasy club last Saturday to see Floating Points and the Night Trackin' boys (Phil A.D, Seb Diamond & Brendon Duvall) throw down dope sets. It was my first time at Velvet, a club that's been hyped out the ass in the past year, and on the visual front, it did not disappoint. People were good looking, the club is aesthetically gorgeous and the music was on point. Besides it being a wee expensive, it was a good night.
Disco, boogie house, r'n'b and groovy dub music were the flavours of the night, and kept everyone two-steppin' til the early morn. For those who have never heard of Floating Points, this song is a nice introduction to his vast catalogue and great talent.
Although this song was a big regional hit when it was released, it never really got the exposure and love it should have. I have a great weakness for steel drums and southern rap music, so this was a godsend when it came out. I've always loved DG Yola because dude seems so genuinely humble and happy to be rapping, and keeps the boasting to a minimum.
Ain't Gon Let Up is a positive, uplifting anthem that is timeless in its appeal. There are always going to be haters, and this song is a great fuck you to all of the naysayers. A dope, bouncy beat, coupled with heavy quotable verses makes this a dirty south classic. (I know I throw that word around way too often, but that's because I don't post filler. Bitches.)

A few days, LOL Boys had their first official original tune get a digital release on Palms Out Sounds records, which also features a remix by L-A nu-jungle maniacs Camo UFOs, a decidedly unique tune known as 123 (PURCHASE/STREAM HERE). It has been getting a LOT of love from such esteemed tastemakers as Sinden, Ikonica, Douster & Teki Latex, to name a few, and has even been featured on The Fader Magazine's website. LOL Boys' 123 is a gumbo of tribal guarachero, UK Funky, their signature tropical house groove, cumbia and the end credits of 80s romantic comedies set in Malibu. This is Leisure Suit Larry club music for the future.
The tune I'm posting today is an unreleased reprise of 123, called Counting. Whereas The D.O.C is sampled in the original version, this time around The Count from Sesame Street, a bunch of children, and Biggie Smalls' Ten Crack Commandments are the weapons of choice. While I prefer the original, the reprise still retains its brilliance and signature funky rhythm.

Today's post is the musical equivalent of going to work after a night of debauchery at an afterhours club. You've gotten no sleep at all, and you're edgy as fuck. The day starts off relatively calmly, but there is a perpetual ringing in your ears, foreshadowing the clusterfuck of a day that is ahead of you. As the day goes on, you lose all grip on reality, and every little sound feels like a sledgehammer pounding you in the temples. By the end of the day, you're a steaming pile of rubble. (yeah, I really need to stop writing these things when I'm hungover)
New LOL Boys remix that I snatched off of their twitter. Gold Panda has produced a lot of great material this year, and this is one of the better remixes of YOU that I've heard so far. Since we've already devoted a lot of space to LOL Boys' sound, I figure that it'd be brighter to concentrate on Gold Panda. His music is somewhat hard to describe, but lies somewhere between ambient downtempo and electronic shoegaze. Honestly, that felt sickeningly lame just writing that, so fuck these pretentious labels. I'll try my best to describe it:
Gold Panda's melodies are what lucid dreaming would sound like. Picture yourself in an opium den, floating halfway between heavy slumber and complete lucidity, and that's Gold Panda's sonic equivalent in a nutshell. However, this remix's take on it (Thanks, LOL Boys), involves two smiling heavyset Amazonian tribesmen banging on marimbas in this lucid dream. Weird and funkyyy.

Panteros666 also moonlights as the drummer of that terrible band The Teenagers, but don't be too quick to pass judgement. He's mondo dope, and is the newest addition to the extremely talented and versatile French crew of producers named Club Cheval. Along with Canblaster, Myd and Sam Tiba, Panteros666 has been tearing up clubs, charts and remixes for the past little while. There is a lot of hype surrounding this crew, and their notoriety is on the rise. Most of their songs are tropical bangers that cover all of the bases between electro, house, techno, and ...gabber? This is Panteros666's mindfuckingly strange and upbeat remix of a tune by Chicago garage rock band The Yolks. It's a pretty good mix of catchy melodies and borderline cacophonous tribal rhythms.
In the next few days, I will be posting an artist profile on this guy, but in the meantime, I'd like to give you a little preview of the insane talent of Munchi. The gentlemen over at Generation Bass were probably the first to put me up on him, and I've been trying to get as much of his material as possible. He's a relatively young Dominican dude living in Rotterdam, and has been called "the next Diplo". He is absolutely fearless and innovative in his sampling choices, and from I've heard so far, his creativity knows no bounds. He is one of the most talented producers making latin-influenced electronic music at the moment, in my humble opinion. As for this remix, well, it's pretty nuts. Last time I checked, Datsik produces somewhat slow dubstep beats, and moombahton involves slowing down fast club beats. To be honest, I'm not sure what the fuck happened in transit, but the end product is unbelievable. Munchi for prez.
This is a recent discovery of mine, a track submitted by a reader. I know next to nothing about Odus, besides that he comes from Reims, but after a quick look at his soundcloud page, I'm a fan. This mp3 was tagged as minimal house, but fear not, dear readers, I wouldn't have posted minimal on a Wednesday afternoon. If this was Saturday at 5am, that's a different story, but I digress. Odus' Three Wishes has much more in common with the bubbling, ascending crescendos that are so popular in the new wave of tropical/ethno/percussive house that we all know and love. While I'm not sure Odus would agree with this assumption, my gut reaction is to say that this wouldn't seem out of place in a Sound Pellegrino-esque set or mix. What do you think? I had never heard of Samo Sound Boy before he released his EP The Bandit, and since then, I've been trying to keep up with his releases. He got featured on a few charts, and also featured on the remix package of Expendable Youth's Cannibalistic, along with ATV favorites LOL Boys. This L-A based producer makes really trippy nigh-unclassifiable bass heavy club music. This song in particular sounds like what would happen if the the 20th century Fox theme was played by Aztecs with sticks and stones. His other work is more on the crazier club tip (check out the soundcloud link posted below), but I had a hankering for some weirder shit.
You know, I've just peeked at his myspace bio (stream of consciousness writing fuck yes) and it says that he learned how to DJ from experimental cumbia producers in Argentina, an influence that I can definitely hear. He also spent time as a van driver and record stamper for Mad Decent Records, which probably also affected his creative process as well, given that he was around all those crazy DJs and producers. So, here's my second take on Samo Sound Boy's sound: it is post-apocalyptic cumbia club that shreds, and his shit should find a comfortable place in your playlists/sets, if there's any justice in this world. Bong Bong.
My love for LOL Boys runs quite deep (czech out this previous feature we did on them for some crazy shit), and given that they are getting massssssive amounts of hype at the moment, I couldn't be happier for them. I hit up Markus recently (the Montreal half of LOL Boys), and let's just say that their new stuff is huge. Like, oil spill MAJOR. They've recently been featured on Sound Pellegrino's new A/V compilation, with a remix of Para One's Toadstool, and they've also done a collabo remix with SP head honcho Teki Latex on Bambounou's great tune Nappy Head. If you've ever wondered what spoken word mixed with Amazonian rainforest/tropicana-rave craziness sounds like, head over to Juno to procure it. It's worth it. (Have you ever heard about my buddy Bambouno? He's chilling)
This particular tune is a remix of a really hazy track by Sweden's own Korallreven. LOL Boys' signature touch is quite apparent on this, and I am definitely not mad at it. The vocal chops are so on-point that it is ridiculous, and somehow, these dudes manage to make something that is almost off-beat sound proper, if that makes any sense. The rhythm is so off-kilter, but their mastery of percussion is Inception-level dreamy.
Although I might seem like a groupie, believe me, LOL Boys are the future, man. This is good stuff.
NICE LITTLE BONUS: Well, we've just been given the green light to post the Para One remix of Toadstool off of the Scion A/V compilation for y'all. Once in a while, you come across music so astoundingly bizarre, so monumentally trippy that you can't help but wonder what kind of twisted mind came up with it. I came across LOL Boys' music quite a while ago, but only recently started to explore their sound in-depth, and let me tell you something: I have been missing out on some of the most masterful and varied productions this side of the moon. LOL Boys is made up of two talented producers, Markus, a Montrealer via Chicago, and Jerome, out of L.A. Their approach to the game is fresh to death, and their sound is astronomically different from remix to remix. From percussion to melody, and all that's in between, LOL Boys' suave sound is unlike anything you've ever heard. Aiming to infect listeners' brains, much like an internet meme, LOL Boys plug into your consciousness and refuse to let go. (What a fucking corny line. Jesus Christ.)
What makes LOL Boys' music so awesome is not only the unique and groovy rhythms that characterize their sound, but also their versatility and their originality. This is extremely trippy electronic music that also happens to obliterate dance floors. 2010 promises to be a huge year for them, as every single remix that I've heard from them so far has been mind-melting. When you're sitting on remixes and originals this good, the sky's the limit. ( By the way, they have a remix of a Them Jeans song coming out in about a month. It is a MONSTER. Keep your eyes open for that one. A psychiatric ward meets the Amazonian Rainforest, with a little bit of jacking house sprinkled on top)
This, ladies and gentlemen, is the future. This is not your father's house music. This is LOL Boys.
LOL Boys recently made a mix for Mixpak Records, and let me tell you, it is INSANE. Their song selection is top notch, and they weave it all together seamlessly. Check it out HERE, along with a great little interview, and you won't regret it. C'est du crack, esti.
