We are already incredibly lucky to be in Montreal for the sheer amount of musical talent there is, but it gets even better when you combine this local talent with international artists. Montreal, stand the fuck up. This is an majestic remix of Ciara's Like A Surgeon, reworked, remodeled and swagged out by Montreal duo ITFW. This has to be one of the most mesmerizing r&b remixes that I've heard in a while. It is tremendously smooth and sure to decimate any unsuspecting dancefloor it is dropped on. This tune will be included on the highly anticipated (seriously, it's going to be so rad) Truants Compilation Volume 1, dropping on March 28th on Truancy Records. Ghetto, sexy and futuristic vibes, all in one.

Lethal Bizzle ft Grime All Stars- Pow 2011 (Roska remix)

While Pow 2011 is nowhere as good as the original, it is still on its way to becoming the Grime anthem of the year. Yesterday, prolific London producer Roska dropped this unbelievably heavy and funky remix of Lethal Bizzle's track, which features verses from JME, Wiley, Chipmunk, Face, P Money, Ghetts and Kano. Roska is the forward thinking don of the UK futuristic bass scene, one of London's champions and heralds of dope drum fills and cerebellum-melting sub-bass. Roska, Roska, Roska...

Munchi & Dave Nada- Brazzers Theme (Munchi's Fuck That it's Bangbros remix)

We at Avenge The Virgins are big fans of Dominican/Dutch boy wonder Munchi, who has definitely made a huge mark on club music and is somewhat responsible for the huge takeover of the Moombahton/Moombahcore movement. I profiled him last August, so I'll skip the long description of why I think he's dope, and just leave you with this insane remix he did for Mad Decent signee Dillon Francis & Moombahton creator Dave Nada. This tune basically boils down to a very simple formula: Hardcore porn + Ballistic bass = Munchi. Don't say I didn't warn you.

It's supposed to get played on DJ Benzi's radio show soon, which is why we haven't posted it yet, but we are really looking forward to sharing it with you. Keep your eyes peeled for that, I know you'll love it.

Broaden Your Horizons: Munchi

Did you enjoy that Steve Starks remix I posted yesterday? I hope so, because today's post is focused entirely on Munchi, one of the most interesting producers out there at the moment. He is a 17 year old Dominican prodigy living in Rotterdam, Holland, and has received a lot of blog attention in 2010, mainly due to his extremely prolific output and his almost feverish desire to innovate.

Munchi's sound, so to speak, skirts the line between moombahton, cumbia, kuduro, reggaeton, merengue, baltimore club, baile funk and salsa. He has tried his hand at a lot of different types of regional dance music, with a great level of success, in my opinion. He has an amazing ear for dope shit, and I especially dig his drive. Munchi, if you're not aware, releases almost every single one of his tracks for free on his blog (link below), in monthly promo mixtapes. Basically, every month, this kid takes on a new genre and puts his spin on it, and releases it to the public for feedback and listening pleasure.

Munchi has been called "The Next Diplo" by Generation Bass, and while it's too early to tell, I can see why they'd throw that out there. Munchi, much like Mr. Mad Decent, is completely unafraid to take the most obscure or obvious sample, and flip it into something amazing. They've both got a manic drive to make people go buck wild, but it may be a while before Munchi attains the same level of recognition. However, if he keeps up his output, all the while turning Planet Rock into a creeping dutch house banger, The Fugees songs into rousing cumbia anthems and Ed Banger electro into Kuduro/Reggaeton hybrids, he might have a chance. Can you say facemelting?

What makes a lot of regional dance music like kuduro or guarachero attractive to me is the fact that these producers make this amazing music with limited resources, usually an old computer running a bootleg early copy of Fruity Loops. While they might not have the luster or big sound of proper recording studios or fancy equipment, the rawness and power of these tracks makes them almost better/funner to dance to, in my opinion. The innate sense of rhythm that these producers have without much outside influence and the almost hedonistic vibe of the tracks makes them appeal to a much wider audience. It is global dance music, if that makes any sense.

What does this have to do with Munchi? Couple that innate sense of awesome rhythm with being surrounded by an exploding dutch house scene, and you have a producer with his finger directly on the pulse of what makes people dance and go apeshit. Truly a force to be reckoned with.

Bottom line: It's awesome music.

Renaissance Man's new EP Brainstorm came out today on Jesse Rose's Made To Play label. This is my favorite tune on the EP, a deep, dreamy powerhouse of a tune. They've produced a lot of amazing tracks, and this one is no different. If you ever have the chance to see them in a show, don't miss it. I saw them perform at Igloofest in January, and they tore the house/ice village down.

Today's post is the musical equivalent of going to work after a night of debauchery at an afterhours club. You've gotten no sleep at all, and you're edgy as fuck. The day starts off relatively calmly, but there is a perpetual ringing in your ears, foreshadowing the clusterfuck of a day that is ahead of you. As the day goes on, you lose all grip on reality, and every little sound feels like a sledgehammer pounding you in the temples. By the end of the day, you're a steaming pile of rubble. (yeah, I really need to stop writing these things when I'm hungover)

Gold Panda- You (LOL Boys remix)

New LOL Boys remix that I snatched off of their twitter. Gold Panda has produced a lot of great material this year, and this is one of the better remixes of YOU that I've heard so far. Since we've already devoted a lot of space to LOL Boys' sound, I figure that it'd be brighter to concentrate on Gold Panda. His music is somewhat hard to describe, but lies somewhere between ambient downtempo and electronic shoegaze. Honestly, that felt sickeningly lame just writing that, so fuck these pretentious labels. I'll try my best to describe it:

Gold Panda's melodies are what lucid dreaming would sound like. Picture yourself in an opium den, floating halfway between heavy slumber and complete lucidity, and that's Gold Panda's sonic equivalent in a nutshell. However, this remix's take on it (Thanks, LOL Boys), involves two smiling heavyset Amazonian tribesmen banging on marimbas in this lucid dream. Weird and funkyyy.

(Honestly, sometimes I should stick to the three word review...)

The Yolks- Faster (Panteros666 remix)

Panteros666 also moonlights as the drummer of that terrible band The Teenagers, but don't be too quick to pass judgement. He's mondo dope, and is the newest addition to the extremely talented and versatile French crew of producers named Club Cheval. Along with Canblaster, Myd and Sam Tiba, Panteros666 has been tearing up clubs, charts and remixes for the past little while. There is a lot of hype surrounding this crew, and their notoriety is on the rise. Most of their songs are tropical bangers that cover all of the bases between electro, house, techno, and ...gabber? This is Panteros666's mindfuckingly strange and upbeat remix of a tune by Chicago garage rock band The Yolks. It's a pretty good mix of catchy melodies and borderline cacophonous tribal rhythms.

Datsik- Firepower (Munchi Moombahcore remix) [now on mediafire]

In the next few days, I will be posting an artist profile on this guy, but in the meantime, I'd like to give you a little preview of the insane talent of Munchi. The gentlemen over at Generation Bass were probably the first to put me up on him, and I've been trying to get as much of his material as possible. He's a relatively young Dominican dude living in Rotterdam, and has been called "the next Diplo". He is absolutely fearless and innovative in his sampling choices, and from I've heard so far, his creativity knows no bounds. He is one of the most talented producers making latin-influenced electronic music at the moment, in my humble opinion. As for this remix, well, it's pretty nuts. Last time I checked, Datsik produces somewhat slow dubstep beats, and moombahton involves slowing down fast club beats. To be honest, I'm not sure what the fuck happened in transit, but the end product is unbelievable. Munchi for prez.

I need some sleep.
