Reflection Eternal is baaaacck. Hip Hop duo composed of producer/DJ Hi-Tek and emcee Talib Kweli. They released their only and 1st CD(Train of Thought) in 2000 and is actually one of my personal favorites. Classic,funky,groovy hip hop beats topped with one of the best modern emcee.
They pre-leaked 3 songs in the last weeks with 2 video clips. GOOD shit, cant wait for the album to drop this summer, perfect vibe for the sunny days. Love the "In this world" joint.

This installment of Broaden Your Horizons is going to focus on a very peculiar artist, one that I miraculously discovered on a psychoactive trip. I've posted one of his songs before, and I figured that you might enjoy a few other tracks from the very talented Kris Skovmand. (Actually, I just fancied posting his songs. Screw you guys.)
Kris Skovmand is a 24 year old singer-songwriter, originally from Florida, who cooks up a rather interesting blend of alt-folk, although labeling his music is rather pointless. He's traveled all around the world, lived in places like Belgium, Romania and Denmark, and has been composing since he's 13. I would have never come across his shit if it weren't for a friend of a friend, and I'm quite happy that I did. The minute I heard his music, it blew my mind. The hooks are simple, the melodies are nothing to write home about, but it gives off a great vibe. This is music to roll it up to, just in time for summer. As well, he's an unsigned, practically unknown artist. I figure that you might like a break from the pop/folk/rock mainstream for a little while. I've also included three videos, one for "I roll it up",one for the title track of his album, "Little friday", and the third for "Wild Deer" The second video is fucking mangled to hell, really poor editing job, but I think you get the idea. The third looks like it was made in Microsoft Paint. It's raw, it's ridiculous, and it's real.
The friend who introduced me to Kris Skovmand's music has a very talented brother who, (surprise!), also writes songs. It's a very short clip, and the sound quality is atrocious, but I think you'll like it anyways. His name is A.J. Cattapan from Alberta, and he writes great melodies. We'll get back to the usual content tomorrow, don't worry. Just MDMAwesome taking over the airwaves for a short while, as I'm prone to doing.
New internet phenomenon, The Filth, have been making their way around the blogosphere lately (big ups to Penned Madness). Their first remix of Ludacris' "Go Low" made it onto Hypem's popular page within a few days. Keeping with their style, they followed up by remixing Kid Cudi & Snoop Dogg's new song "That Tree". For those of you who know me, my taste in music is somewhere between Cal's hip-hop and Brigden's electro. Electro hip-hop, could it be?
Headed back to The Filth's MySpace recently and they already have another song up. This time around they tear apart Passion Pit's hit single and turn it into a mad BANGER!

Ok, so it's really generic trance. That name is pure genius though. Deadmau5 is a prick anyways, from what I've heard, so the more parodies/disses, the better.
Highbloo is a 19 year old Belgian producer, a talented-as-fuck purveyor of trippy, bleepy percussive tech house. I think one of Brodinski's monthly charts probably tipped me on to him, and I've been digging his output ever since. There are a lot of young talented producers making some really experimental, daring and fucked up music out of France and Belgium these days. Must be something in the water.
San Francisco sure knows how to spawn weird psychedelic music. oOoOO are mysterious as hell, weaving sparse, hollow sounds into an unsettling sonic landscape. I read an interview they did in Vice Magazine that featured a quote that said that oOoOO sounds like something a serial killer would listen to speeding through the fog across the Golden Gate bridge, after committing a murder. Pretty fucking apt, I would say. Fantastic stuff.
See, this is what dubstep is supposed to fucking sound like. Admittedly, I was first introduced to the world of dubstep after listening to Burial's second CLASSIC album Untrue. I thought dubstep was supposed to be music that sounds like a city, to put it crudely. Sounds that evoke images of grimy industrial districts, with warehouses and smoking chimneys. Isn't dubstep supposed to sound like the ringing in your ears after driving back home from a rave in the morning? What's with all the bleepy bloopy bullshit? Wobble wobble fuck off.(I'm hating, but I love this shit. Raw, dirty, pounding sub-bass is fucking ace.)
Yes, it sounds almost exactly like Boris Dlugosch's Bangkok. . It's intentional. Some say it's a diss, some say a tribute. Either way, Afrojack has just dropped one of the biggest bangers of the year, and has had his sound jacked by just about everyone in the past year. Those high-pitched rave stabs are getting to my head. Call a fucking doctor, already.
I've also included Rusko's new video for Woo Boost. He is the most popular (and divisive) figure in dubstep, and is working with big pop stars like Rihanna now. He seems like an awesome dude, and I would've loved to see him at Igloofest (If it wasn't minus 40 degrees at the time). His music is either really good or unbearably cheesy and horrible, but I dig his drive. (Plus, keytar, Max Headroom swagger-jacking and weird mohawks! what's not to like?)
Summer is in the air. Terrasses, sundresses, shows and bombing. Can't wait.
Yes yes, its that special time of the week. Hip hop is coming around your corner. In this post ill be focusing on legal hip hop mixtapes. But dont get it twisted, the mixtapes featured in here are no rickross gangsta grezill ones. Each group produced a quality "album" wich they called mixtape since they are giving it for FREE, buuuuut beat quality is there my friend.
1st off, the most known artist of the bunch : Chip Tha Ripper Mister Chip might be considered a bit more rap-ish then Hiphop but his beat selection for his mixtape "The Cleveland Show" is quite interesting. Loads of electro beats but still comes with great hip hop production like the track produced by one of my favorite producer DJ Hi-Tek. To top it off, there is about 20 tracks in this mixtape, all produced by a bunch of different locals (OHIO) and Chip's friends.
2. Pac Div 2nd mixtape is from Pac Div. A west coast flavor with a lot talent. The mixtape "Church League Champions" was very well received by the rap/hiphop community. With all this hype they were able to reach the ears of The Neptunes, who will produce songs for their upcoming album called "Grown Kid Syndrome". You can compare their sound to similar west coast modern hiphop groups like The Cool Kids or Dom Kennedy. Enjoy, great videos too...
3. 6th sense 6th sense is a raper/producer/DJ from New York. The dude works his ass off to come up with fresh eastcoast hip hop. On his most recent mixtape "Vol 2 & 3", he produced mellow beats on which well known rapers like : Skyzoo, Chip Tha Ripper, The Kid Daytona spit verses.
Who wants another story? I'm sure all of you do and your now intent on actually reading this marvelous post instead of just downloading our awesome music. Enough boasting, let's get this one going.
Last Friday, March 12 to be exact, Avenge the Virgins and a few of our friends decided to hit up the Blog Wars. First off, we need to thank Duke of Swabia for hookin' us up with a guestlist, As Heard From Mars for taking into consideration my request and dropping "Pon De Foley", and finally 4MTL for getting the crowd moving with their brilliant choice of songs and taking home the win.
Harvard Bass was first on stage, and although the crowd was less wild than at his last show in December he still delivered some quality songs like Round Table Knights vs Bauchamp - Calypso and even played his remix of Felix Cartal's "World Class Driver"!
Avenge the Virgins was there and has some fabulous clips to share.
L.A.'s Classixx followed up and gave us a wonderful set full of funky-disco-indie songs which got me stoked beyond belief that summer is right around the corner. Take this song for instance, it's now my new summer anthem! Mylo - Otto's Journey

Had no idea what Drop the Lime was going to be doing for his part since I never saw a live set of his. Let's just say it was one of my favorite sets ever. This mofo sings over the songs he's playing, good start. Every song he plays seems to be the most incredible thing he has ever heard, seriously I had never seen a DJ so siked about the music he's playing. To top that off, he went from some banging electro, Fabio Lendrum - Trouble (Drop The Lime Remix) into some sweet dubstep, The Boogaloo Crew - Days Go By and finished up his set with some nice 60s groove.
Woah! This was such a good show!
Now things get interesting, the next day my friend asks me about some groovy, 60s sounding song with a woman singing from the end of Harvard Bass' set. At first I thought he was mistaking Harvard Bass with Drop the Lime, but he assured me it was him. Naturally I had to check this out, so I headed to my trusty Internet to start searching for it. About 5 minutes into my search, I got bored and went to get my fix of Facebook. BAM! on the home page, a clip of the show was uploaded by a friend. Gets better, it was Harvard Bass. Even better, it sounded exactly like the song I was looking for. From better to best and the track is already IDed. GOD I LOVE YOU INTERNET! So a quick google search gave me a nice download link. Gramophonedzie - Why Don't You (Original Mix) Think the story is done? It ain't. My friend is pleased, but wants so much more: which song is the voice being sampled from?
