Been a while since I've done this posting thing. So it's time I get back in the game. Nothing crazy to begin with, but it will all be back on track soon. Just need to download some music first, you should too. What better place to do so than right here on AtV. Anyway, remember to tell your girls: "Just don't bite it."
Good evening yall, hope your doing alright. I went for a quick browsing in my favorite vinyl joint today, only bought 1 record. It reminded me of some cool artists/tracks I used to listen to some time ago so that's what your getting tonight. No descriptions this time, let the music convince you. Pure hip hop vibe.
Hola, its a beautiful day here in Montreal and probably one of the last warm day before we get surrounded by all that snow. Anyway no time for babblin', here's the music you were waiting for.
The Grouch & Eligh - Denial The Grouch is a big name in the hiphop "underground" scene. He's been producing a shitload of material since the beginning of his career. Also considered as one of the main founding member of the Bay Area Living Legends Crew (Very talented crew BTW). Pretty hard to pick one particular song off all his albums and collabos but I finally decided to choose one off his most recent collabo that he did with an other Living Legends member Eligh. Good beat that definitely fits that laid back sunday state of mind.
Lil Wayne - Outstanding Lil Wayne has been off the radar for quite some time since he's currently serving time for drugs possession. If you don't remember, he was arrested at borders with big ass bags of weed in his buses. At least it was only weed huh. Anyway, he probably has an album or mixtape already produced and ready to sell when he gets out of jail(around November). That's how the game works nowadays, you need that fake "street cred" which is getting fucking ridiculous. The song I'm sharing today was supposed to be on Tha Carter III but finally didn't because it was leaked way before the release date. People thought it was a Dre beat, but that was just rumors. Good chill-out track.
Murs - She Had A Nascar Last beat is from a not so recent mixtape by Murs. I've always been a fan of his music. This guy has his own style and he's been doing it for years. I personally think he's finally getting the attention he deserves. Electronic instrumental, some weird voice(Madlib style) and Murs coasts the beat perfectly.
To finish this one, just droppin an indie laid back track. Just take a seat and chill.
HAHA! Cal will not be posting hiphop today! WHAT?! Hell yeah, decided it was time for me to dig into the interweb for some more house/electro/dubstep and whatever. My collection was starting to be a bit redundant and old. You know, we always need some new basslines in our lives for us to sleep well at night. It's also good trying to stay on top of our game if you know whaaattt I meeaaan.
Afrojack - Polkadots 2010 (Oliver Twizt Remix) Anyway, 1st track was originally produced by Afrojack, dirty dutch house god, and then remixed by Oliver Twizt. I had the chance to witness a live set by Afrojack at Mysteryland festival in Holland. Let me tell you that it was fucking packed and crunk house beats for hours. We almost died trying to get out of the tent(we were going to Dirty South's stage) since everybody was trying to get in. Afrojack passed by Montreal not too long ago and apparently he delivered once again. ANYWAY good stuff, good beat, grungy electro bass line.
Don Diablo & Example - Hooligans (Extended Dub) Don Diablo has always been producing quality bangers and this one is not an exception. He did this beat for UK act "Example". The original kinda had cheesy house lyrics but this version only has the good stuff. Here's the extended dub, it was released last year but what ever it's still some hard shit. Bangers n' Mash my dear friends
Tim Turbo ft. Spoek Mathambo & Gnucci Banana - Hush (Iggy, Iggy) We received this track from "Tim Turbo" in our inbox not so long ago and it kinda surprised me a bit because I had never really heard anything like that for quite a long time. It has that funky tropical electronic sound. This track got the attention of big names such as Douster & So Shifty so you know there must be something going on. Germans are known to be party people and this shit right here is a party anthem. Album coming out on October 1st, watch for it.
Weird but very original home made video clip. Fits the mood quite well
We don't post mixes that often on Avenge The Virgins. Actually there's no specific reason why we don't, it just happens like that. I guess we like to concentrate ourselves on providing fresh music to people instead of long ass useless mixes.
But this one right here is an exception to our mix-less blog ahah. It was sent to us by one of our dedicated readers. I decided to give this one a shot because it features a mix of some chill hip-hop and electronic vibes which we don't often find in the most popular mixes nowadays. Perfect mix for the long public transportation rides if you know what i mean ahah. Also categorized as "Blunt Friendly" by the DJ, Taylor Walker
Tracklist: Gucci Mane - Dope Boys (Bird Peterson 2010 Remix) (ripped from drankenstein) JJ - Ecstasy Pac Div - Waves at the Prom Nappy Roots - Aw Naw Animal Collective - Daily Routine (Phaseone Remix) Cage the Elephant - No Rest for the Wicked (DJ Slink Remix) Office Musik (Clockwork Edit) - Weezy Mos Def / Max Tannone - In My Math (from Mos Dub) Excision + Bassnectar - Nation Manu Chao - Me Gustas Tu Wale - Freaks (Bird Peterson Remix) Nosaj Thing - 1685/Bach MF Doom - Vomitspit (Metatheory Remix) Girl Talk - Knife (Grizzly Bear vs. Clipse) Snoop Dogg - Gangsta Luv (Mayer Hawthorne G-Mix) Jay-Z + Radiohead - Reckoner's Encore (Max Tannone Remix) Kid Cudi - All Talk (Chip Tha Ripper) Fulgeance - Low Club Anthem Black Lips - Veni Vidi Vici (Diplo Remix) R Kelly - Down Low (Nobody Has to Know) DJ Shadow + Kid Koala - Third World Lover Trey Songz - Say Aah (Twerkshop Remix) Tupac - Do For Love (Vodka & Milk Remix) Phoenix - Fences (Boombass Remix) Gyptian - Hold Yuh (Major Lazer Remix)
Yesterday was a good day. We partied our asses off as usual, randomly met and got drunk with Bloc Party's bus driver which was quite funny.
Today's post is going to feature hip hop songs and the samples used by each producers. Some times you find a beat so sick that you wonder what was the original track used to create this master "piece".
1st track by Talib Kweli. This is an old track off the Eardrum cd. First time I saw Talib Kweli live he started the show with this song and it was damn good. The bass was hitting so hard I thought I was going to have a heart attack. The sample used here is from an old mellow funk/soul song. Good beat to relax Talib Kweli - Listen Sample: Fred Williams & The Jewels Band - Tell Her
CunninLynguists have been one of my favorite hip hop act for quite some time. This beat called Hellfire samples a weird demoniac song by Arthur Brown. Ryan "Kno" Wisler really did a great job on the beat. Take a look at the video, his dance moves are too good. CunninLynguists - Hellfire Sample: Arthur Brown - Fire
Wu-Tang was the shit back then, and still is. That said... for this post I kinda hit the shuffle button a couple times until I landed on some shit by The RZA. This is why I'm sharing with u guys 2 of my favorite "recent" RZA beats.
This one is off the Afro Samurai soundtrack. Afro Samurai is a Japanese manga witch got adapted into a TV series and a movie. The original author of the comic books, Takashi Okazaki, was deeply influenced by his love for soul/hip hop music and American medias. He went for one of the biggest name of the game to produce the soundtracks for his series. This joint and the whole album has a nice hiphop/soul vibe to it.
Now time for some good east coast sh'bang. Madlib is foshoo in my top5 producers' list. He produced this nice original beat for De La Soul, who I think doesnt need any introduction... Listen for yourself, there's also a videoclip. Dont expect any oldschool, this one was produced in 2004, its late delasoul stuff, but still bangin. De La Soul - Shopping Bags (Produced by Madlib)
Last featured rapper was 1st brought to my attention by DJ Skeet Skeet couple months ago when I asked him what fresh west coast hiphop was he listening at the moment. He answered mister almighty Dom Kennedy. You can compare him to Pac Div, featured in one of my older posts, and The Cool Kids. This track is a perfect summer anthem. P.S : chek out the booty at 00:22. DAMN! Dom Kennedy - Watermelon Sundae
Reflection Eternal is baaaacck. Hip Hop duo composed of producer/DJ Hi-Tek and emcee Talib Kweli. They released their only and 1st CD(Train of Thought) in 2000 and is actually one of my personal favorites. Classic, funky, groovy hip hop beats topped with one of the best modern emcee.
They pre-leaked 3 songs in the last weeks with 2 video clips. GOOD shit, cant wait for the album to drop this summer, perfect vibe for the sunny days. Love the "In this world" joint.
Yes yes, its that special time of the week. Hip hop is coming around your corner. In this post ill be focusing on legal hip hop mixtapes. But dont get it twisted, the mixtapes featured in here are no rickross gangsta grezill ones. Each group produced a quality "album" wich they called mixtape since they are giving it for FREE, buuuuut beat quality is there my friend.
1st off, the most known artist of the bunch : Chip Tha Ripper Mister Chip might be considered a bit more rap-ish then Hiphop but his beat selection for his mixtape "The Cleveland Show" is quite interesting. Loads of electro beats but still comes with great hip hop production like the track produced by one of my favorite producer DJ Hi-Tek. To top it off, there is about 20 tracks in this mixtape, all produced by a bunch of different locals (OHIO) and Chip's friends.
2. Pac Div 2nd mixtape is from Pac Div. A west coast flavor with a lot talent. The mixtape "Church League Champions" was very well received by the rap/hiphop community. With all this hype they were able to reach the ears of The Neptunes, who will produce songs for their upcoming album called "Grown Kid Syndrome". You can compare their sound to similar west coast modern hiphop groups like The Cool Kids or Dom Kennedy. Enjoy, great videos too...
3. 6th sense 6th sense is a raper/producer/DJ from New York. The dude works his ass off to come up with fresh eastcoast hip hop. On his most recent mixtape "Vol 2 & 3", he produced mellow beats on which well known rapers like : Skyzoo, Chip Tha Ripper, The Kid Daytona spit verses.
